What Are Your Top Three Favorite Notebooks?

Blue_Moon

Recommended Posts

I'm not concerned about which ink you use with what sized nib. Doesn't matter. Simple question: What are your top three favorite notebooks (or brands of paper)? See my signature block for mine.

Edited by Blue_Moon

Franklin-Christoph, Italix, and Pilot pens are the best!
Iroshizuku, Diamine, and Waterman inks are my favorites!

Apica, Rhodia, and Clairefontaine make great paper!

_Midori MD blanko (I prefer the smoother paper over the cotton)

_Life Japan blanko

_Clairefontaine blanko

+Midori Traveller`s Super thin paper

I`m using these for over 3 years now and don`t really feel the need to try anything else

I would buy (if it were available):

_Rhodia Notebook (the one they have doesn`t lie flat & is therefore no go)

_Clairefontaine NB with sewn binding

_Tomoroe River Notebook (sewn & at least 100 pgs)

Alphabetically (basically a 3-way tie)—

  • Apica Premium CD
  • Life Noble
  • Rhodia Webnotebook

I love the smell of fountain pen ink in the morning.

I've been on a quest to see if I could commit all Seven Deadly Sins in a single day. Finally, it dawned on me I shouldn't try for the One Day Wonder Prize for all seven in one day. It's simply out of any question as you can't commit decent sloth while busily ticking the other six off your crowded "to do" list. -- ViolinWriter

Yes, I love Apica CD paper - especially the A5. However, I'd take any Apica paper. I also agree with you about the Rhodia Webnotebook. Love Rhodia paper in general, but there's something special about the Webnotebook.

Franklin-Christoph, Italix, and Pilot pens are the best!

  • Seven Seas Crossfield for journaling. Not sure what I'll do when my last two are gone, hate the new design -- probably start using their blanks with a printed square guide.
  • Maruman Mnemosyne wirebound for work (various sizes), mainly for note taking, design and scribbling.
  • Kokuyo A5 Sarasara (6mm dotted lines) refills in a hardcover 20-hole binder for daily/long term planning

I seem to be in the minority with this, but I actually don't care much for Rhodia and Clairefontaine ... they are too glassy for my taste

Midori travelers, Arc medium size, paperblanks, and have to add moleskins with select pens to work with the paper.

They are super smooth, indeed, and I like that most of the time. However, there are occasions when I like some feedback from the paper.

Isn't that funny how there's a difference in quality between ARC junior size and and letter size paper?

Currently using an A5 Black n Red. I'm surprised they get such little play on this site as I find them quite nice. Of course I have my own requirements. Absoltulty no wire bound anything. Good paper and much open flat.

Oh to have that translucent pink Prera! @migo984 has the Oeste series named after birds. There is a pink one, so I’m assuming Este is the same pen as Oeste.    Excellent haul. I have some Uniball One P pens. Do you like to use them? I like them enough, but don’t use them too much yet.    Do you or your wife use Travelers Notebooks? Seeing you were at Kyoto, I thought of them as there is a store there.

It's not nearly so thick that I feel it comprises my fine-grained control, the way I feel about the Cross Peerless 125 or some of the high-end TACCIA Urushi pens with cigar-shaped bodies and 18K gold nibs. Why would you expect me or anyone else to make explicit mention of it, if it isn't a travesty or such a disappointment that an owner of the pen would want to bring it to the attention of his/her peers so that they could “learn from his/her mistake” without paying the price?

Why nobody says that the section of Tuzu besides triangular shape is quite thick. Honestly it’s the thickest one among my many pens, other thick I own is Noodler’s Ahab. Because of that fat section I feel more control and my handwriting has improved. I can’t say it’s comfortable or uncomfortable, but needs a moment to accommodate. It’s funny because my school years are long over. Besides this pen had horrible F nib. Tines were perfectly aligned but it was so scratchy on left stroke that collecte

Awesome! I'm in the process of preparing my bag for our pen meet this weekend and I literally have none of the items you mention!! I'll see if I can find one or two!

@asota -- Yeah, I think I have a few rolls in my fridge that are probably 20-30 years old at this point (don't remember now if they are B&W or color film) and don't even really know where to get the film processed, once the drive through kiosks went away....  I just did a quick Google search and (in theory) there was a place the next town over from me -- but got a 404 error message when I tried to click on the link....  Ruth Morrisson aka inkstainedruth
