Which Pink Ink Do You Think

BradGad

Recommended Posts

Hey folks,

A coworker has expressed interest in my fountain pens, and she really likes the feel of the modest but lovable Platinum Preppy. And she likes pink.

I'm trying to make a convert here, so I'm giving her the pink Preppy 03 Fine that came in my rainbow pack.

It comes with a cartridge of Platinum Pink, but after that... what do you think?

What's your favorite pink ink? What would be a good pink ink to introduce Jennifer to the wide world of bottled inks after her cartridge runs out?

I have zero experience with pink inks.

Thanks

Oh, I loooove pink ink. I think I would most likely suggest something easily obtainable. Like, perhaps a few 30 ml bottles of the different Diamine pinks (Pink, Hope Pink, Flamingo Pink) would be a nice place to start. And she'd need a converter or an ink syringe. :)

I'd stick with those lovely pink cartridges from Platinum. I'd just get her to try the 0.5m nib.

Fountain pens are my preferred COLOR DELIVERY SYSTEM (in part because crayons melt in Las Vegas).

Don't know where to start?  Look at the Inky Topics O'day.  Then, see inks sorted by color: Blue Purple Brown Red Green Dark Green Orange Black Pinks Yellows Blue-Blacks Grey/Gray UVInks Turquoise/Teal MURKY

Yeah, if she's new to fp's; apply the KISS principle and get her a couple packs of platinum pink cartridges.

Then, if she sticks with, get a .5mm Preppy; a converter and a bottle of Diamine Pink.

Save the ED conversion until the last step. People have to be gradually coaxed into fps. :D

Yes, that's what I meant to say. If she really likes the obnoxiously bright Platinum pink, then get her a bottle of the Platinum pink -it's over the top.

I love Yama-budo, but not sure I really would call it pink. Ditto for De Atramentis Red Roses (on some paper and in some pens it's about the color of Apothecary Rose petals, but sometimes is more of a red-violet).

De Atramentis Apple Blossom is pretty but not as "in your face" as some inks. Ditto for Diamine Carnation (from their Flower Collection -- not sure which of the colors is available as individual bottles though).

Not sure if it's still available, but Organics Studio Emily Dickinson is about as "in your face" as it gets.

Haven't used it for a long time, but I always liked Noodler's Shah's Rose.

I have yama-budo... it's a beautiful ink and it just sings in my Pilot 823... but I don't think I would call it pink either. Maybe merlot-shading-to-pink.

Wish I could find a good use for yama-budo. Right now all I do is ink up my 823 with it, pull out a Rhodia pad, write a few lines and go, "Wow... that's really cool."

I'm taking the 823 with yama-budo to work tomorrow to let Jennifer try. Not as a pink recommendation... just to try to get her more hooked.

Thank you Ruth... and everyone else! ... I am not being super vocal on this thread but am monitoring and appreciative.

I use Yama-budo in an Herbin rollerball; the color is brighter than it was in the FPs I tried because there's no gold sheen to darken the color.

It's hard work to tell which is Old Harry when everybody's got boots on.

Did you see the thread on the Noodler's Rachmaninoff? This stuff is so saturated it looks like a bottle of paint. It's an amazingly rich pink.

Oh to have that translucent pink Prera! @migo984 has the Oeste series named after birds. There is a pink one, so I’m assuming Este is the same pen as Oeste.    Excellent haul. I have some Uniball One P pens. Do you like to use them? I like them enough, but don’t use them too much yet.    Do you or your wife use Travelers Notebooks? Seeing you were at Kyoto, I thought of them as there is a store there.

It's not nearly so thick that I feel it comprises my fine-grained control, the way I feel about the Cross Peerless 125 or some of the high-end TACCIA Urushi pens with cigar-shaped bodies and 18K gold nibs. Why would you expect me or anyone else to make explicit mention of it, if it isn't a travesty or such a disappointment that an owner of the pen would want to bring it to the attention of his/her peers so that they could “learn from his/her mistake” without paying the price?

Why nobody says that the section of Tuzu besides triangular shape is quite thick. Honestly it’s the thickest one among my many pens, other thick I own is Noodler’s Ahab. Because of that fat section I feel more control and my handwriting has improved. I can’t say it’s comfortable or uncomfortable, but needs a moment to accommodate. It’s funny because my school years are long over. Besides this pen had horrible F nib. Tines were perfectly aligned but it was so scratchy on left stroke that collecte

Awesome! I'm in the process of preparing my bag for our pen meet this weekend and I literally have none of the items you mention!! I'll see if I can find one or two!

@asota -- Yeah, I think I have a few rolls in my fridge that are probably 20-30 years old at this point (don't remember now if they are B&W or color film) and don't even really know where to get the film processed, once the drive through kiosks went away....  I just did a quick Google search and (in theory) there was a place the next town over from me -- but got a 404 error message when I tried to click on the link....  Ruth Morrisson aka inkstainedruth
