What Pen Did You Finish Today?

Ranga Model 4C Blue Pearl -- still had a third of a converter, but the Diamine Golden Ivy shimmer had reached the stage of sever clogging of the feed.

The Bamboo will likely not last the week, has about two drops of ink in it left. That will leave two more Rangas to drain...

As expected -- drained the Ranga Bamboo.

Unexpected: I was checking the ink level in the Ranga Model 3 by tilting it while watching the bubble in the converter -- and noticed a cloudy/filmy substance floating in the middle. So... Ultrasonic cleaner with heavy ammonia/water load for a few cycles, then clear water for a few more; with the Bock nib unit removed from the section to ensure I got as much as possible. Taccia Daidai was the ink.

Onoto 4601, a very plain black pen with a lovely No 2 nib. It is almost well enough behaved to take out of the house, but not quite. Ink was Graf von Faber Castell Moss Green.

Saturday night at work, the JIF I was testing Stipula Purple in. One of the few times I've actually not filled a cartridge all the way when testing, probably because I only bought a sample, and I did a lot of sudokus Friday. Great color, great performance, refilling the cart today and will definitely be ordering a full bottle.

I finished a clipless dark wood pen made by John Twiss (a UK pen-maker), which has a lovely italic-fine nib ground by John Sorowka. It was filled with Fritz Schimpf Sirimiri rainy grey), which is a lovely combination.

I just finished a Yafa Barrage, labeled Stilisa, that I loaded with Camlin blue. Definitely a bit scratchy, but no problems starting even when it was really dried (after forgetting to use it for several days). Just a VERY dark line to start :)

Going to have to locate a better cartridge for it. Supposedly standard international, but those wedge into the bottom, leading them to unplug when you unscrew the base.

In the process of flushing out the Forest Green Parker 51 I got at an estate sale a little over a year ago. I think what was in it was Waterman Mysterious Blue (I didn't fill the pen) from when I had a bit of nib work done at the Commonwealth Pen Show last month.

The in-rotation stash is starting to get unwieldy again, so I'm back to the "don't fill a pen until you flush at least two..." regimen. That means another pen will get flushed out in the next day or two (just not sure what all is getting low).

When I got to work the JIF with Vibrant Pink started skipping. I thought at first that is was the feed having dried from not being used in a few days but the cart turned out to be almost empty.

Looks as if the Lamy LX is the next on the list. Although I'm a bit concerned that there may be residual ink behind the converter's piston head....

Filled the M200 Blue Marbled with Edelstein Olivine, the M400 White Tortoise with KWZI El Dorado and the M200 Brown Marbled with Diamine Saddle Brown over the weekend.

Racing green Lamy 2000. No worries; I have five other pens inked right now. Oh, no - six!

An Aurora Optima, blue, fine point, finally divested itself of the last traces of Lamy T53 Azurite, even from its reserve. Yes, they cost a bit (like corresponding Pelikans and Montblancs) and they perform to suit. You could use one forever.

I picked up my Velvet Black Singularity (Nemosine) last night to write up a time sheet, and it went 'scritch scritch'.

Dried out - I hadn't used it in a day or two. (I've seen this from the Sheaffer Washable inks. Seem to dry out faster)

  • 2 weeks later...

A Santini Libra Ebonite Forest worked happily yesterday but gave up its inky ghost this morning. The departed soul was Lamy T53 Peridot, which I had managed to get into the Santini only by decanting some into a narrow vial. I will lose no opportunity to complain about Lamy's ridiculous bottle design for these otherwise decent inks.

Oh to have that translucent pink Prera! @migo984 has the Oeste series named after birds. There is a pink one, so I’m assuming Este is the same pen as Oeste.    Excellent haul. I have some Uniball One P pens. Do you like to use them? I like them enough, but don’t use them too much yet.    Do you or your wife use Travelers Notebooks? Seeing you were at Kyoto, I thought of them as there is a store there.

It's not nearly so thick that I feel it comprises my fine-grained control, the way I feel about the Cross Peerless 125 or some of the high-end TACCIA Urushi pens with cigar-shaped bodies and 18K gold nibs. Why would you expect me or anyone else to make explicit mention of it, if it isn't a travesty or such a disappointment that an owner of the pen would want to bring it to the attention of his/her peers so that they could “learn from his/her mistake” without paying the price?

Why nobody says that the section of Tuzu besides triangular shape is quite thick. Honestly it’s the thickest one among my many pens, other thick I own is Noodler’s Ahab. Because of that fat section I feel more control and my handwriting has improved. I can’t say it’s comfortable or uncomfortable, but needs a moment to accommodate. It’s funny because my school years are long over. Besides this pen had horrible F nib. Tines were perfectly aligned but it was so scratchy on left stroke that collecte

Awesome! I'm in the process of preparing my bag for our pen meet this weekend and I literally have none of the items you mention!! I'll see if I can find one or two!

@asota -- Yeah, I think I have a few rolls in my fridge that are probably 20-30 years old at this point (don't remember now if they are B&W or color film) and don't even really know where to get the film processed, once the drive through kiosks went away....  I just did a quick Google search and (in theory) there was a place the next town over from me -- but got a 404 error message when I tried to click on the link....  Ruth Morrisson aka inkstainedruth
