C/f Converters

I bought a c/f converter from someone in New York years ago and it has died! The rubber cracked and broke. Does anyone know a source for another c/f converter? Is there a modern replacement?

I DID find one on a pen blog one made by PEN & INK that was carded and the blogger said it works on c/f pens? Anyone have a source for that one?

Thanks

"Death" is not always an irreversible state.

I am not familiar with the C/f converter. However, you write as if it has a rubber sac. Is the sac replaceable ?

Thrilled that you have a c/f, one of the first cartridge fillers and a novel design fot its time. Can you tell I want one?

I like Sasha's thinking. Sacs are easy to get. Could you do a sac replacement on the converter

  • 2 years later...

Pentooling.com has C/F converters for sale. Look under Waterman parts.

Thank you for the lead. They are rather expensive on eBay.

I have replaced the sac in several of these converters. It is possible to ease out the tip with care and a small amount of heat can help. I have also used an old bent cf ballpoint refill to push the tip out from behind through the presser bar slot. I use a trimmed down no 5 sac. The press bar needs to go in first then its a gentle push to get the tip back in. Its a tight fit though. Be patient and gentle. Note if the metal casing is split round the tip the converter is not recoverable. It expands when you fit the tip back in with the sac and will not then fit in the pen. Good luck.

Awesome! I'm in the process of preparing my bag for our pen meet this weekend and I literally have none of the items you mention!! I'll see if I can find one or two!

@asota -- Yeah, I think I have a few rolls in my fridge that are probably 20-30 years old at this point (don't remember now if they are B&W or color film) and don't even really know where to get the film processed, once the drive through kiosks went away....  I just did a quick Google search and (in theory) there was a place the next town over from me -- but got a 404 error message when I tried to click on the link....  Ruth Morrisson aka inkstainedruth

There is still chemistry for processing regular chrome (positive) films like Kodak Ektachrome and Fuji Velvia, but Kodachrome was a completely different and multistep beast.

Ah, but how to get it processed - that is the question. I believe that the last machine able to run K-14 (Kodachrome processing) ceased to operate some 15 or so years ago. Perhaps the film will be worth something as a curiosity in my estate sale when I die. 😺

Take a lot of photos!   If the film has deteriorated or 'gone off' in any way, you can use that as a 'feature' to take 'arty' pictures - whether of landmarks, or people, or whatever.
