I’m getting to know my birthday pen, just had the nib ground yesterday. So far, I’m riding out the ink used by Kirk to test the nib.

Congratulations, Penguincollector. My forty year old 146 is my favorite pen. It has a soft fine/medium nib that gives a hint of line variation. I hope your pen lasts forty years!

Thank you, I hope so too. Tell me about your pen; is the feed ebonite or plastic? What is your favorite ink to use in yours? I’ve had a 144 for most of my life now, and it’s a completely different experience.

Platinum MB 149 B, Sarowka "Italic Delight" grind before it was a thing.  MB Heritage Blue ink.

Add lightness and simplicate.

My most used MB is 149 Platinum with EF nib with blue MB ink. Works very well. Always starts right away (even if not used for a few days or a couple weeks).

My inherited MB Monte Rosa 042 Fine steel nib, had not been used for at least 40 years, but writes beautifully after just rinsing & filling.

MB 144 flat top with EF nib. Been out of touch for a bit and this was a great way to get my feet wet again.

Not me, but my partner is enjoying her birthday gift, a MB 146 <M>, probably from 1978-1985, which she’ll use for drawing (as well as writing). It came with the promise that, if she decided the pen didn’t agree with her hand, I’d find her a suitable alternative; but she was sufficiently delighted that I somehow doubt that will be necessary.

Gifting one that someone really loves is as much or more fun than gifting one to yourself IMO. Wonderful.

Awesome! I'm in the process of preparing my bag for our pen meet this weekend and I literally have none of the items you mention!! I'll see if I can find one or two!

@asota -- Yeah, I think I have a few rolls in my fridge that are probably 20-30 years old at this point (don't remember now if they are B&W or color film) and don't even really know where to get the film processed, once the drive through kiosks went away....  I just did a quick Google search and (in theory) there was a place the next town over from me -- but got a 404 error message when I tried to click on the link....  Ruth Morrisson aka inkstainedruth

There is still chemistry for processing regular chrome (positive) films like Kodak Ektachrome and Fuji Velvia, but Kodachrome was a completely different and multistep beast.
    • Ceilidh
Ah, but how to get it processed - that is the question. I believe that the last machine able to run K-14 (Kodachrome processing) ceased to operate some 15 or so years ago. Perhaps the film will be worth something as a curiosity in my estate sale when I die. 😺

Take a lot of photos!   If the film has deteriorated or 'gone off' in any way, you can use that as a 'feature' to take 'arty' pictures - whether of landmarks, or people, or whatever.
