Ink To Complement Rose Gold?

Recommended Posts

Hi,

I'd like your suggestions for a new ink. I've ordered the pale rose with rose gold Visconti Venus pen, and I'd like to find an ink to complement or accent the rose gold trim and nib, as the pen body appears to be very, very light in color. In the photos the nib appears to be darker than the rose gold trim, almost a bronze tone.

I've looked for rose gold toned or rosy-bronzy inks but have come up empty. I'm not usually fond of browns, but might need to think outside the box, and I don't want orangey tones. I thought about the Herbin 1670 brownish ink, but I'm not sure I want to use a sparkly ink in a Visconti, or even want a sparkly ink for this use, and I already have other shimmer inks from Diamine. I also already have a couple of pink inks (Rose Tendresse, Amaranth) that I use for girly cards and notes, so I wasn't thinking true pink ink for this. The ink doesn't even have to mimic the rose gold trim, but what would accent or look good with it?

I don't always try to match or complement ink to pen color, and I tend to favor blues, so it's likely Venus will sip a nice blue for starters. I ordered a small bottle of Asa-gao when I ordered the pen. But I'd like something different or unique for this pen and don't know what. Also, I prefer wet inks.

I don't recall ever reading any suggestions or comments about inks that look especially good with rose gold trimmed pens (or even with palest rose). Any ideas? Thanks!

Edit: Btw, despite that silhouette, I'm a woman.

If I wanted to match up one of my inks to the rose gold of a pen, I would look at Diamine Carnation (Flowers set) or Strauss (Music set).

There's also a J. Herbin ink called Rouille d'Ancre that would probably compliment rose gold too. :)

If I wanted to go with a brown/red type I like Diamine Rustic Brown or maybe Monteverde Red Velvet.

Black.

I like Black flowing out from a Gold nib, the deepest darkest black from the depths of midnight.

Occasionally, if there's a real pink tone to the gold, i like GreenBlack too... like its bleeding a trail of dark bile.

Great suggestions! Thanks!

I actually ordered a sample of Aurora Black the other day (but thinking of the grey and rose gold Van Gogh for that), and earlier today I put a sample of the Herbin d'Ancre in my Goulet cart. I'm wondering how pale it will be, though. I have a sample of the one that is yesterday's bouquet ("Antan"?), and IIRC it was very pale and hard to read. I also looked at the Terracotta but thought it looked like it had a lot of orange. I'll take another look. The B Swan in English Roses had reviews that made it sound like a neutral dusty rose, but it doesn't look that way on the product page to my eye. I'm wondering if a really deep, dark rose would work? The few pinks I have are too pinky.

I'll take a look at all the other suggestions, too. I'll have to think about that trail of dark bile, LOL. :o

I've really been surprised that there aren't any bronzy or rosy-brown inks out there, at least that I could find.

Again, thanks, and Happy New Year!

Diamine Saddle Brown might be a brown to look at. Just a hint of pink in it.

Almost any blue black or even some of the grays.

Thanks--Saddle Brown was one of the ones I checked out yesterday, too. I couldn't decide if it was a bit rosy or not. Inks look so different on a screen sometimes. I also looked at the Herbin that has a teapot on the label.

I hadn't thought about greys. I did order a couple of grey samples the other day because of the grey Van Gogh.

I think I love inks about as much as I love fountain pens!

Copper. Look for copper.

I ride a recumbent, I play go, I use Macintosh so of course I use a fountain pen.

Oh to have that translucent pink Prera! @migo984 has the Oeste series named after birds. There is a pink one, so I’m assuming Este is the same pen as Oeste.    Excellent haul. I have some Uniball One P pens. Do you like to use them? I like them enough, but don’t use them too much yet.    Do you or your wife use Travelers Notebooks? Seeing you were at Kyoto, I thought of them as there is a store there.

It's not nearly so thick that I feel it comprises my fine-grained control, the way I feel about the Cross Peerless 125 or some of the high-end TACCIA Urushi pens with cigar-shaped bodies and 18K gold nibs. Why would you expect me or anyone else to make explicit mention of it, if it isn't a travesty or such a disappointment that an owner of the pen would want to bring it to the attention of his/her peers so that they could “learn from his/her mistake” without paying the price?

Why nobody says that the section of Tuzu besides triangular shape is quite thick. Honestly it’s the thickest one among my many pens, other thick I own is Noodler’s Ahab. Because of that fat section I feel more control and my handwriting has improved. I can’t say it’s comfortable or uncomfortable, but needs a moment to accommodate. It’s funny because my school years are long over. Besides this pen had horrible F nib. Tines were perfectly aligned but it was so scratchy on left stroke that collecte

Awesome! I'm in the process of preparing my bag for our pen meet this weekend and I literally have none of the items you mention!! I'll see if I can find one or two!

@asota -- Yeah, I think I have a few rolls in my fridge that are probably 20-30 years old at this point (don't remember now if they are B&W or color film) and don't even really know where to get the film processed, once the drive through kiosks went away....  I just did a quick Google search and (in theory) there was a place the next town over from me -- but got a 404 error message when I tried to click on the link....  Ruth Morrisson aka inkstainedruth
