* Breaking News * Dante Del Vecchio Is Leaving Visconti...

Wonder if this will have an effect on their quality control. It surely cannot get worse than it is already. Visconti for me is a perplexingly expensive pen with a beautiful outer casing and a very ordinary Bock nib that almost always needs tuning and rarely writes out of the box. Better QC can be obtained from buying a knockoff Hero for £0.50

Meanwhile, back on topic, I'd love to see a return to usable, affordable beauty like the original Van Gogh Maxis that had nibs competitive with an MB 149 instead of all the low quality steel-nibbled bling. Or unusable bling with uncomfortable in the hand sections or body shapes.

I love the gorgeous usability of the Divinas with the silver insets in the Maxi lengths, instead of the chopped off Midis of late that are too short for me to write with.

And while we are dreaming, maybe a clip that is actually functional and not butt fugly.

I actually rather like their clips, though I also don't tend you use one any more.

On a previous mentioned comment - QC on nibs would be rather nice. I've been tempted by a Dark Ages Bronze, but keep getting scared off by the stories on the nibs.

And I'm still lamenting the demise of Visconti's Rebecca Moss LE's. *sigh* Will anyone *ever* make pens like that again?

=( Are we not going to see any more new Visconti pens? Mr. Del Vecchio has always been a very nice person, I believe he has always had a very big influence on the design team. I hope with him gone, they keep making great works of art =/

I really wonder what direction Visconti will take now. Looking at the recent Opera Metal series, it seems as if they are trying to hit the 'lower end' of the market with their stupid chromium nibs. If this will be their focus from now on, I hope they don't stop making great looking expensive pens either. *Sigh, I should get myself some extra Pd nibs just in case some crazy (bleep) goes down :P Considering the price of a nib is like 250 bucks each, I might as well just buy a bunch of HS Bronzes with broad nibs for future custom grinds argh.

What to do, what to do.

Currently Inked = Pilot Custom 823 - 14Kt Gold 'M' Nib -- Visconti Kakadu LE #100/100 - 18Kt Gold 'M' Nib -- Visconti Homo Sapiens London Fog LE #785/888 - 23Kt Pd "1.3mm Stub" Nib -- Pelikan 100N Transitional - 14Kt Gold 'OF' Nib -- Pelikan 400 - 14Kt Gold 'KF' Nib (All Inked with Pelikan 4001 Blue-Black) -- Pelikan M200 West Germany - SS 'OBB' Nib

Dante Del Vecchio is leaving Visconti.

Incredible, but true.

He sent a note yesterday, announcing that he’s leaving the direction and chairmanship of Visconti by the end of the year, due to internal conflicts with his business partner.

:yikes:

I'm not suprised. Visconti has made some real dogs in the last few years and replacing gold nibs with palladium didn't seem right to me.

I think back at the old models like the Titanic limited edition and wish they produced this kind of pen instead of the gaudy numbers they have come out with recently.

The original Van Gogh Maxis were great pens - and could have been further refined to become even better. An even bigger, oversized Van Gogh 'Super Maxi' would have been a dream pen!

I've never had any issues with their nibs. I also like the palladium nib just fine. I've heard a few people mention that they don't like Visconti clips. I think they look awesome. I just bought the Opera Crystal Dark Age. It's a limited edition offering with only 38 made. This is an awesome pen and as far as I can tell. Visconti hasn't missed a beat

A silver lining to this kind of split is that often the exiting party simply starts a new company to further their vision. Should that happen then we, the fountain pen community, will have even more choices.

Oh to have that translucent pink Prera! @migo984 has the Oeste series named after birds. There is a pink one, so I’m assuming Este is the same pen as Oeste.    Excellent haul. I have some Uniball One P pens. Do you like to use them? I like them enough, but don’t use them too much yet.    Do you or your wife use Travelers Notebooks? Seeing you were at Kyoto, I thought of them as there is a store there.

It's not nearly so thick that I feel it comprises my fine-grained control, the way I feel about the Cross Peerless 125 or some of the high-end TACCIA Urushi pens with cigar-shaped bodies and 18K gold nibs. Why would you expect me or anyone else to make explicit mention of it, if it isn't a travesty or such a disappointment that an owner of the pen would want to bring it to the attention of his/her peers so that they could “learn from his/her mistake” without paying the price?

Why nobody says that the section of Tuzu besides triangular shape is quite thick. Honestly it’s the thickest one among my many pens, other thick I own is Noodler’s Ahab. Because of that fat section I feel more control and my handwriting has improved. I can’t say it’s comfortable or uncomfortable, but needs a moment to accommodate. It’s funny because my school years are long over. Besides this pen had horrible F nib. Tines were perfectly aligned but it was so scratchy on left stroke that collecte

Awesome! I'm in the process of preparing my bag for our pen meet this weekend and I literally have none of the items you mention!! I'll see if I can find one or two!

@asota -- Yeah, I think I have a few rolls in my fridge that are probably 20-30 years old at this point (don't remember now if they are B&W or color film) and don't even really know where to get the film processed, once the drive through kiosks went away....  I just did a quick Google search and (in theory) there was a place the next town over from me -- but got a 404 error message when I tried to click on the link....  Ruth Morrisson aka inkstainedruth
