Yuki-Akari Sailor Jentle Ink (2016)

In 1911, Mr. Kyugoro Sakata, an engineer from Hiroshima in Japan, was introduced to the fountain pen. Mr. Sakata was so intrigued by the design and function of the pen he decided to begin a company to craft the finest writing instruments in the world. In honor of his British friend, he chose to name the company Sailor Pen.

The Sailor Pen Company has maintained this heritage of quality and technical perfection over the years. Apart from offering very well made pens, the company has employed an ink master - pure genius who's managed to create greates fountain pen inks ever (it's my opinion not validated by research but shared by many of us). I would guess that during the years Sailor created approximately 600-800 inks (most of them under other names).

One of internatioonally available line of Sailor inks is Sailor Jentle line. At the moment we have two of them. The new one reintroduces colors that were missed by hundreds of geeks. I'vwe bought full line of new Jentle inks and I'll review them all in following weeks. The inks are:

8. Yuki-akari

 

Today I'll say few words about

Yuki-akari

I was pretty sure that litteral translation of Yuki-akari is An Affront to the eyes. It seems however I have dictionary with errors because it tries to translate this name as snow-light. It must be outdated. I'm sure. First translation describes the color perfectly.

Apart from being hideous yuki-akari is an average ink. It has no water-resistance, saturation is average, it doesn't feather but it may cause some bleedthrough on absorbent papers. Basically I would say it's the ink for Sailor fans. There's a lot more better behaved and more interesting inks in this hue range on the market.

Thanks for the review of the inks in this series. The greens are beautiful, but the others you've shown are not really good-looking. I was considering to get this series, but now only the greens go on my to-buy list.

Some may call it Yucky-akari. I am not a fan of this colour, but this is definitely not the worst one available (looking at you, J. Herbin Diabolo Menthe).

I wonder what would make it to the top ten.

Wow! No Diabolo Menthe in the Flop 10! I absolutely agree with the Pelikan 4001 Red, since elementary school was a nightmare inside my Pelikano.

I agree, not that bad, but for the same price range I've got loads of inks I would prefer to buy, even on the similar colour range. And in certain case more than one bottle.

At least Sailor put some effort in it creating a colour wich is ugly, but I can see that was made with a little bit of consciousness.

Diabolo Menthe is an unconscious plain disaster.

Diabolo Menthe is greener and paler. What's more, Yuki doesn't look that awful on white paper. The yellowish background changes its tinge and makes it more yucky.

This one may be a bit light, but I'm getting more and more into turquoises as I search for the ultimate "best modern" replacement for vintage Skrip Peacock.
