221, 251, 281 Mont Blnc Set - Advice Please

Hi - what an interesting site!

Could someone please give me some advice? I have a Mont Blanc pen set that I received as a gift in 1992 (new). It also has a leather case for 3 pens. The set comprises the fountain/cartridge pen, ballpen and pencil (221, 251, 281).

I have all original boxes and certificate etc - please see photo.

As much as I love nice pens, I have hardly used them over the years - the ballpoint still has it's original refill in! They are all in mint condition. I'm thinking either to sell them or if they are a good collectable, to save them for the future.

I don't see much on the Internet but perhaps I'm not looking in the right places. Certainly didn't find anything on the Mont Blanc .

Would be very grateful if someone could advise whether they are 'çollectable'? And also, where could I find the value for the items? I did read the forum rules and don't want to breach on my first post!

Many thanks and best regards, Ian

You have a nice set there but you should know that they are somewhat older than you might think. The 221 model was made between 1968 and 1979. They are among some of the nicest MBs made. The 2xx series was Montblancs Medium price range pen at the time.

In order to post in the Fountain Pen Network classifieds, you need to post at least 30 times and be a member for at least 30 days.

Ebay has its own risks, but it can be a source of approximate prices.

'A Vintage ...' - Many thanks for the info - very interesting - I had no idea. My wife bought them from a military officers' gift shop in Germany in 1992. They must have been on the shelf for some time!

'Antique' - Thanks for the advice but I'm not ready to decide whether to sell or keep as a collectable yet. Just researching.

Many thanks and best regards, Ian
