I have a bottle of KWZI IG Red, not sure if it's #3 or other.

 

Question is, at what point do you stop calling it a red and start calling it a brown.

 

The one I have, goes on brown, and then it dries and oxidizes to a darker shade of brown.

I think I have a bottle of czerwony galusowy, but I don't know if it's this one. I'll have to look for it (I keep organizing, which means I should make a kind of map in order to remind myself which boxes contain what).

 

I hope it's this red!

No it's not. It's just some light reflection on still wet ink.

There is IG Red with no number and IG Red #3. #3 writes down as quite a red colour.

IG Red is more dusty and greyish, IG Red #3 goes more dark red-brown. IG Red #2 doesn't exist officially, it is a combination that Konrad worked out but didn't want to release

Oo, nice! Used the end of a Pilot Parallel to dip and smear and a quick cameraphone snapshot. Now I must empty a pen so I can use this ink in it!

I don't know if it's my monitor (dont' misunderstand me I kinda like this colour), but advertising it as a red it's a little borderline, it seems more like a red-chocolate colour or a really dark burgundy or a dark grenade.

I think KWZI iron-gall inks are all named after the colour when it's fresh and wet. If we were to name them after the final colour they'd all be called brown and black.

I loved this review!

I bought me a bottle - this is a red ink I could actually use!

 

What I received however was a vile magenta crusting to black - it's like two elements of the ink are fighting, but without resolution . . . and the end result is Chocolate Cherries and Black forest Gateaux - which I loathe!

 

Maybe it will transform into that awesome dark brick over time, or maybe I was sold a pup (bad batch etc.)? I guess I'll wait a week and see, but I really was looking for something other than chocolate cherries!

Here's what I got. Overnight it mellowed out to a rather nice Burgundy, so please excuse my initial hysteria (still weaning on IG inks), but definitely magenta/red-violet rather than that lovely flamey brick of the photo's above (which is what convinced me to buy it!). Image is a bit of a mix but the red, and its magenta undertones, are clearly labelled:

Nothing but respect for KWZ here! After my rather grumpy post above (where I thought I was ordering a dark brick and received a chocolate cherry!) there was a reply Agnieszka waiting for me the next morning to apologize and seek resolution. I sent her some further scans of what is really a rather nice Burgundy, just nothing to do with the color reviewed above and she says I clearly have a mislabeled bottle which she has offered to replace. Prompt and diligent, what excellent service!
It seems to me that the Ink in the Bottle (Probably the original IG Red?) does not match the label on the bottle but does match the color swatch on the carton - so if you are looking to buy this a simple check that the color on the box and the color on the bottle are in agreement should suffice.
I'm attaching a scan of the box and label, and one more set of noodles comparing the ink I received to other red-violets. My conclusion is that it has just enough red to qualify as a rose rather than a violet. If someone can confirm that this is the regular KWZ IG Red I would certainly recommend it to anyone looking for a red-violet (or who likes Black Forest Gateaux!).

I am so glad Agnieszka took care of you.... I was going to reply that IG inks are very paper dependent... Your first pic looks like there is too much purple in it..

 

 

When you get your new bottle... do try on different type of papers. IG reacts to the cotton content of the paper, and the color will vary between different papers. For me, that is the beauty of IG inks....
