Nib Replacement Help

LittleMissHijaabHead

Recommended Posts

I was given this Danitrio cum laude as a gift ages ago from a lovely fountain pen network person. However, a while ago, I was filling in and I bent the nib. I've done all I can to straighten it, but it's just not the same. I'm looking to replace the nib, but don't know where to look for it to buy it. Any ideas?

If it was my pen I'd give it to a nibmeister to staighten. It will not cost much.

I always use Danny Fudge. He lives in a suburb of Omaha, NE.

IIRC at that time Danitrio was using nibs and feeds from JoWo. They may be able to get you a replacement nib and feed. Also contact Nibs.com and ask if they remember what nibs were needed or have a replacement. But your nib certainly does not seem beyond repair. Remember that the Cum Laude Dani's are often seen selling for under $50.00 new.

I think there are a few nib meisters / pen techs in the UK.

Hold out to find them.

Thanks, do you think if I contacted them they'd know what size I need?

The people at fpnibs.com are very helpful, and would do their best to help you. You'll probably need to pull out the nib, do some basic measurements, and send them a picture - but if this *is* a standard #5 or #6 nib, especially if it's manufactured by (or to match the specs for) JoWo, then yes, I'm pretty sure they'd be able to help. Given their proximity to you (Spain), their reasonable prices and their exceptional customer service, I'd say it's worth a try.

(Beaufort Inks, www.beaufortink.co.uk, would be even closer to home, and are the English supplier for Bock nibs. In my experience, the larger #6 nibs are fairly close in size and curvature, but the smaller #5s are less likely to be interchangeable.)

Hi, I've used Beaufortink for Bock nib replacement, with a very fast service, but your nib might be a JoWo so that might not be the answer in this case.

As a previous person has written, if you can measure your nib accurately, (in mm's would be fine) then it would be fairly easy to identify what size it is.

Had a bit of a Google, and it would appear the likelihood is it's a JoWo #6. But measurement would be wise, just to be sure.

Oh to have that translucent pink Prera! @migo984 has the Oeste series named after birds. There is a pink one, so I’m assuming Este is the same pen as Oeste.    Excellent haul. I have some Uniball One P pens. Do you like to use them? I like them enough, but don’t use them too much yet.    Do you or your wife use Travelers Notebooks? Seeing you were at Kyoto, I thought of them as there is a store there.

It's not nearly so thick that I feel it comprises my fine-grained control, the way I feel about the Cross Peerless 125 or some of the high-end TACCIA Urushi pens with cigar-shaped bodies and 18K gold nibs. Why would you expect me or anyone else to make explicit mention of it, if it isn't a travesty or such a disappointment that an owner of the pen would want to bring it to the attention of his/her peers so that they could “learn from his/her mistake” without paying the price?

Why nobody says that the section of Tuzu besides triangular shape is quite thick. Honestly it’s the thickest one among my many pens, other thick I own is Noodler’s Ahab. Because of that fat section I feel more control and my handwriting has improved. I can’t say it’s comfortable or uncomfortable, but needs a moment to accommodate. It’s funny because my school years are long over. Besides this pen had horrible F nib. Tines were perfectly aligned but it was so scratchy on left stroke that collecte

Awesome! I'm in the process of preparing my bag for our pen meet this weekend and I literally have none of the items you mention!! I'll see if I can find one or two!

@asota -- Yeah, I think I have a few rolls in my fridge that are probably 20-30 years old at this point (don't remember now if they are B&W or color film) and don't even really know where to get the film processed, once the drive through kiosks went away....  I just did a quick Google search and (in theory) there was a place the next town over from me -- but got a 404 error message when I tried to click on the link....  Ruth Morrisson aka inkstainedruth
