Montblanc Prices World-Wide

I'm going to visit a few countries next month, and was wondering where would be my best bet to find the lowest prices in a local boutique - Germany (Frankfurt), Austria (Vienna), England (London), Canada (Toronto) or the US (New York and Huston)?

 

It is my understanding that prices don't differ much between Europe and N. America, but recent currency rates' fluctuations might have changed that.

A 149 is 760€ in Austria from the Montblanc Boutique, if that helps. However, you can get it Tax-free and then you would get 14% back at the airport.

In this day and age of globalization, it's really hard to find a "bargain" in prices as all the prices these days are pretty much centrally controlled. There are however 2 silver linings to this.

- Look for markets that have had very recent currency devaluation. Eg Great Britain is a great example. You can find most designer goods, especially from brands like Montblanc at a better price if you were a visitor from the US.

- Montblanc only relatively recently started to standardize prices everywhere. In the past, they depended on distributors. Which means that you might still find old stock product on the shelves of little Mom and Pop shops in more obscure locations in different parts of the world.

Managed to find a Thomas Mann set in Singapore. Also managed to fine an Itoya limited edition 2003 pen in a smaller Itoya.

 

Also It's relatively easy these days to check the prices in countries you visit. Just change the Montblanc's official website to the country you want to visit. You can also use an online VPN to quickly check the prices.

Probably not in Canada with the exchange loss and 13% tax on purchases in some provinces.

I used to work for a Montblanc distributor in South America back in 2004. At that time, MB made sure that all retailers charged the same price all over the world. The only difference from country to country would be sales tax. And the duty free stores were handled by MB (at least in South America). Things may have changed. Also, I'm not sure if you can find gray market MB pens which would be a way to get better prices.

They got pretty thorough in the 2000s, a war of attrition on dealers and good controls.

Part of the fun of collecting Montblancs is finding the private dealers who have had stock in their drawers for years and not changed the price.

 

Cheapest boutique I have found was in Cape Town, I think if you were going to buy three or four pens you could cover the cost of your airfare from Europe.

I was pleasantly surprised by the pricing I found on the internet (AD's) was similar to prices found at my local Boutique.

 

There is one particular AD i visit each time when in Malaysia (KL) who is generally 15-20% cheaper then buying direct - Anything over $1000 is not worth importing as we get hit with customs that suck up all the savings.

I've feasted on a few good deals when camera shops or other out-of-the-way places opened up a small "pen corner."
