Hobonichi Techo Cover Alternatives

I don't know about you folks, but not many of the covers speak to me this year.

Furthermore, I am interested in more options than $50, $100, to $400+.

Anyway, whether you are using an old set-up or new one, please, by all means, share.

I always just looked at the site and either decided or went without (bad idea).

Thanks and cheers!

Gfellers. About $100.

Take a number and go to the back of the line.

I ride a recumbent, I play go, I use Macintosh so of course I use a fountain pen.

I got my gfeller cover from Nanami Paper

http://www.nanamipaper.com/products/gfeller-hobonichi-cover-a6-english-kip.html

Its $60 and it shows still in stock.

I also use one of the rubber bands as an elastic enclosure.

Works pretty well most of the times.

I'm just waiting for the leather to age and develop a nice patina.

I originally went for a leather A6 cover from One Star Leather. Their cover was a bit stiff and dry at first but I applied some leather conditioning lotion and massaged it. Several applications and it turned a bit darker and softened a bit and became more supple.

Just when I was beginning to like the OneStar cover I had to up and leave and go for the gfeller cover.

You can see that I have some commitment issues.

What I meant to say there was that both the band and the leather cover are very nice, but since the band is not permanently attached to the book, I find myself taking it off and setting it aside only to lose it among my things and having to search for it later.

I have the same type of setup for my seven seas writer: A5 gfeller cover and a broad rubber band enclosure. I find myself often putting the smaller band on the A5 and larger band on the A6.

Otherwise it's very nice.

There are a lot of sellers on Etsy that make great covers. I am hesitant to suggest it, but Gillio in Italy makes gorgeous leather covers. The downside is that they are expensive. I bought an A5 cover that is gorgeous, but I still can't believe I spent that much on a notebook cover.

Stuff from etsy tends to be expensive because it is handmade in (some country) by skilled craftsmen trying to make a living. They do not compete with cheap labor or machines. Gillio's products look awesome. You are going to get what you pay for there.

The listing on nanami is interesting because of the price, US$60.00. /that implies Gfellers is selling them to nanami for about $30.00. Good idea to support the good folks at nanami but why not order directly from Gfellers and let them pocket the entire retail price instead of the weenie wholesale? You can ask for the double pen loop that serves as closure. that will bring the total cost closer to $80-100, including shipping.

Oh to have that translucent pink Prera! @migo984 has the Oeste series named after birds. There is a pink one, so I’m assuming Este is the same pen as Oeste.    Excellent haul. I have some Uniball One P pens. Do you like to use them? I like them enough, but don’t use them too much yet.    Do you or your wife use Travelers Notebooks? Seeing you were at Kyoto, I thought of them as there is a store there.

It's not nearly so thick that I feel it comprises my fine-grained control, the way I feel about the Cross Peerless 125 or some of the high-end TACCIA Urushi pens with cigar-shaped bodies and 18K gold nibs. Why would you expect me or anyone else to make explicit mention of it, if it isn't a travesty or such a disappointment that an owner of the pen would want to bring it to the attention of his/her peers so that they could “learn from his/her mistake” without paying the price?

Why nobody says that the section of Tuzu besides triangular shape is quite thick. Honestly it’s the thickest one among my many pens, other thick I own is Noodler’s Ahab. Because of that fat section I feel more control and my handwriting has improved. I can’t say it’s comfortable or uncomfortable, but needs a moment to accommodate. It’s funny because my school years are long over. Besides this pen had horrible F nib. Tines were perfectly aligned but it was so scratchy on left stroke that collecte

Awesome! I'm in the process of preparing my bag for our pen meet this weekend and I literally have none of the items you mention!! I'll see if I can find one or two!

@asota -- Yeah, I think I have a few rolls in my fridge that are probably 20-30 years old at this point (don't remember now if they are B&W or color film) and don't even really know where to get the film processed, once the drive through kiosks went away....  I just did a quick Google search and (in theory) there was a place the next town over from me -- but got a 404 error message when I tried to click on the link....  Ruth Morrisson aka inkstainedruth
