Noodlers Omaha Brown

This is an ink review of Omaha Brown which is a color that Nathan developed for our store. I'm usually a blue guy myself... pilot iroshizuku kon peki may be the best color ever... but this brown is starting to grow on me. I tried to give it the best review I could. Truthfully, I'm pretty low maintenance when it comes to what I want out of an ink. I usually just want low feathering, quick drying, and minimal (preferably none) bleedthrough. This ink accomplishes all of those things quite well. I have included a page with comparisons of several other similar colors out there. Hopefully this gives everyone a good frame of reference for the color shade. Comments and questions are always appreciated.

The ink can be found at www.jandjwooddesigns.com

Thanks for the nice review. The red undertone is well done IMO. Hard to work out as an ink... not to much, not too little red. Sort of a mahogany (not knowing whether or not that is what you might have had in mind,,,).

I see the drying times and wonder if this is considered a waterproof ink?

As I was messing around with it I was having a hard time getting it to wash away with water. I am going to get in touch with my supplier and see if I can get a list of Noodlers properties as it pertains to the ink. I will post them as soon as I have them.

Mike,

Thanks for the feedback. Truth is I didn't have anything in mind except the geographic connection to Nebraska. Nathan developed the rest and I agree... its not to bad for a brown.

I think this is a fabulous brown

Thanks for the review. Not a brown for me, though. I don't much care for the ones that lean red.

Still, it must be really exciting to have an exclusive in all your very own. Congratulations.

Here is an update on all the ink properties for Nooclers Omaha. First let me start by asking if anybody has ever asked their spouse where they wanted to eat. Did your spouse reply "I don't really know" or " I don't really care"? Then when you got done with supper and you asked them if they liked it did they shrug and say "kinda"? I sorta feel like that is where this ink fits with all the properties that Noodlers lists for its ink Here it goes

Waterproof - Partially

UV/Bleach Resistant - Partially

Archival Fade Resistant - Partially

Impervious to lasers, solvents, and ideal for security documents - Partially

Glows under UV - No

Lubricated - No

Freeze resistant/ Polar - No

There ya have. When asked about its properties you can think of my example above and say uhhhhh "kinda". In my own experience I was having a heck of a time washing the ink off the paper... but I didn't soak it. My guess is that if you soaked it, the ink would come off the paper. Hopefully this helps everyone out who had questions on it. It can still be found at www.jandjwooddesigns.com

Many thanks, as always, to barkingpig for the sample. It's a nice brown ink, but almost a perfect copy of J. Herbin's pretty Terre de Feu ["Tierra del Fuego" = "Land of Fire"].

Paper, pen, lighting all play a role in how it looks in a photo. But to me, based on the comparison I see in real life, the Omaha ink is an almost identical sibling to Terre de Feu.

Oh to have that translucent pink Prera! @migo984 has the Oeste series named after birds. There is a pink one, so I’m assuming Este is the same pen as Oeste.    Excellent haul. I have some Uniball One P pens. Do you like to use them? I like them enough, but don’t use them too much yet.    Do you or your wife use Travelers Notebooks? Seeing you were at Kyoto, I thought of them as there is a store there.

It's not nearly so thick that I feel it comprises my fine-grained control, the way I feel about the Cross Peerless 125 or some of the high-end TACCIA Urushi pens with cigar-shaped bodies and 18K gold nibs. Why would you expect me or anyone else to make explicit mention of it, if it isn't a travesty or such a disappointment that an owner of the pen would want to bring it to the attention of his/her peers so that they could “learn from his/her mistake” without paying the price?

Why nobody says that the section of Tuzu besides triangular shape is quite thick. Honestly it’s the thickest one among my many pens, other thick I own is Noodler’s Ahab. Because of that fat section I feel more control and my handwriting has improved. I can’t say it’s comfortable or uncomfortable, but needs a moment to accommodate. It’s funny because my school years are long over. Besides this pen had horrible F nib. Tines were perfectly aligned but it was so scratchy on left stroke that collecte

Awesome! I'm in the process of preparing my bag for our pen meet this weekend and I literally have none of the items you mention!! I'll see if I can find one or two!

@asota -- Yeah, I think I have a few rolls in my fridge that are probably 20-30 years old at this point (don't remember now if they are B&W or color film) and don't even really know where to get the film processed, once the drive through kiosks went away....  I just did a quick Google search and (in theory) there was a place the next town over from me -- but got a 404 error message when I tried to click on the link....  Ruth Morrisson aka inkstainedruth
