One Line A Day Journals

These one line a day journals seem to be popular at the moment. I am wondering about getting one in order to keep things at a minimum so to speak - five years in one little book. However, I am wondering if it will be too constricting, yet on the other hand it will stop me from rambling on.

Has anyone else used them?

I have the five year one and overall it is good. The paper is fountain pen friendly, which is a great bonus. The problem is it can be repetitive and some of the questions are frankly stupid while others will result in the same answer no matter how many years pass. Is it worth doing? Yes, I think so. It's been an interesting exercise but I'm not sure I will look at it Gain after I'm finished whereas some normal journal entries I do return to for various reasons.

I had a Midori Five Year Perpetual Diary/Journal. It was free-form in that it didn't have any prompt questions mentioned by Uncial above. There were 5 lines per day so not overly restrictive but the small space ensured a focus on the salient points and precluded rambling. It was FP friendly, had two ribbon bookmarks and came in a slip case which protected it nicely.

Not cheap but I enjoyed using it.

I started a Levenor five year journal last January. Five lines a day to describe the days events with fountain pen friendly paper. I do think it will be fun to look back on the same dates in year's past to see what was happening. However, I found I was doing far less journaling overall.

I started the five year one sold by Barnes and Noble with good intentions, but have had trouble keeping up with it. But it worked with most fountain pens I used.

I have not tried this type of journal but if I did I would expound on those main topics in a separate journal. I have to write. I'm about to finish a 194 pg pocket moleskine which I began on July 1. I could see the five year diary as a jump starter to write more.

Thanks for your replies. I am thinking maybe the five year diary would be too restrictive. Studio97, wow you do write a lot, is it all personal stuff you write and do you keep all the notebooks, just out of interest? I have now started writing long winded entries in a separate notebook.

Pussinboots, as I said I am about to finish a 194 pg small pocket moleskine like an A6. I usually fill the Larger moleskine A5 size in about 2 to 3 months. I write a lot of personal stuff and reflections about anything like world events, very little about my current job, some from military and medical experience , local events, crime as it happens on the scanner...you name it. I also work through problems by writing about it. I also use journals up to 8 x 11. I keep all my journals ever since I began this in the early 90's. So I have thought about getting a five year diary but I could use any notebook and just make a short entry per day but it would not replace my current journaling habit. I don't like any pre-dated notebooks. That imposes "rules" and all the notebook police have been laid off. There are no rules except for the ones you make up for yourself. So I may pick out a notebook for my 5 year diary but it can be any length of time I choose.

Oh to have that translucent pink Prera! @migo984 has the Oeste series named after birds. There is a pink one, so I’m assuming Este is the same pen as Oeste.    Excellent haul. I have some Uniball One P pens. Do you like to use them? I like them enough, but don’t use them too much yet.    Do you or your wife use Travelers Notebooks? Seeing you were at Kyoto, I thought of them as there is a store there.

It's not nearly so thick that I feel it comprises my fine-grained control, the way I feel about the Cross Peerless 125 or some of the high-end TACCIA Urushi pens with cigar-shaped bodies and 18K gold nibs. Why would you expect me or anyone else to make explicit mention of it, if it isn't a travesty or such a disappointment that an owner of the pen would want to bring it to the attention of his/her peers so that they could “learn from his/her mistake” without paying the price?

Why nobody says that the section of Tuzu besides triangular shape is quite thick. Honestly it’s the thickest one among my many pens, other thick I own is Noodler’s Ahab. Because of that fat section I feel more control and my handwriting has improved. I can’t say it’s comfortable or uncomfortable, but needs a moment to accommodate. It’s funny because my school years are long over. Besides this pen had horrible F nib. Tines were perfectly aligned but it was so scratchy on left stroke that collecte

Awesome! I'm in the process of preparing my bag for our pen meet this weekend and I literally have none of the items you mention!! I'll see if I can find one or two!

@asota -- Yeah, I think I have a few rolls in my fridge that are probably 20-30 years old at this point (don't remember now if they are B&W or color film) and don't even really know where to get the film processed, once the drive through kiosks went away....  I just did a quick Google search and (in theory) there was a place the next town over from me -- but got a 404 error message when I tried to click on the link....  Ruth Morrisson aka inkstainedruth
