Sailor Pen & Message / Writing Lab - Old Burgundy

Recommended Posts

This is my second favourite ink from Pen & Message shop after, obviously, Cigar. I have been wanting to use this for a while now, but kept using other inks that i have.

There is some sheen, but if you use a hosepipe BB nib, you should be able to get more sheen out of it. Due to my handwriting being relatively small, i cannot use such nibs.

They recently changed the label of on the boxes, so here is an obligatory picture of both the boxes.

This is my favourite burgundy ink, unless of course i manage to get something else from sailor, and i do have 3-4 burgundy inks waiting to be used.

Only thing I do regret is not choosing a better Graphilo notebook. This one is so thick (188 pages 80gsm) that by the time i reach the end of the page, i find it hard to support my hand for writing. Hence, the irregular writing at the end.

Waterproofness and drying times isn't much of an issue for me, so I've skipped that. In case anyone is interested in that, I'll be happy to add them.

Thank you.

Lovely colour Mew, thank you for posting. You also have a very readable handwriting, reminds me of that of my dear departed mother.

Your problem on the thinkness of the writing pad is also interesting, it doesnt seem to be a universal problem but I find it a slight annoyance on small notebooks, I end up with a book with half-page notes.

Thanks again for posting on this unusual ink.

Seems rather close to Sweet Potato Purple?

Sorry, don't have that for comparison.

Thank you for your kind words and comparison of my writing with that of your mother.

This notebook is quite small. Something like 210mm x 120mm which is smaller than A5. Pages are thick too, so 188 pages makes it quite thick. I'll use some sort of support next time after half a page, hopefully that will help. :)

Or I'll just do it on tomoe river.

This one's definitely on my wishlist. Thanks for the review!

Goodluck. Not easy to get now. :)

Thank you for the review. I have sampled it. I kept expecting sheen.

Fountain pens are my preferred COLOR DELIVERY SYSTEM (in part because crayons melt in Las Vegas).

I'm so tired of these reviews on inks that are unattainable, but I suppose it's good in a way. Tends to foster hope that there is some great good in the world even if I shall never encounter it myself.

Did you get any sheen? Should be there and very easily visible with those hosepipes.

In that case, I'll keep them coming. :)

Hope is a great thing. :c)

While additional steps to attain these inks are annoying and the new restrictions some shops now have in place can be discouraging, finding such bottles is not impossible.

Good luck with your search!

Anyone with suggestions on how to obtain the Pen and Message inks?

Sadly no. :( Well...a plane ticket to Kobe, Japan would be one way. Expensive though.

Oh to have that translucent pink Prera! @migo984 has the Oeste series named after birds. There is a pink one, so I’m assuming Este is the same pen as Oeste.    Excellent haul. I have some Uniball One P pens. Do you like to use them? I like them enough, but don’t use them too much yet.    Do you or your wife use Travelers Notebooks? Seeing you were at Kyoto, I thought of them as there is a store there.

It's not nearly so thick that I feel it comprises my fine-grained control, the way I feel about the Cross Peerless 125 or some of the high-end TACCIA Urushi pens with cigar-shaped bodies and 18K gold nibs. Why would you expect me or anyone else to make explicit mention of it, if it isn't a travesty or such a disappointment that an owner of the pen would want to bring it to the attention of his/her peers so that they could “learn from his/her mistake” without paying the price?

Why nobody says that the section of Tuzu besides triangular shape is quite thick. Honestly it’s the thickest one among my many pens, other thick I own is Noodler’s Ahab. Because of that fat section I feel more control and my handwriting has improved. I can’t say it’s comfortable or uncomfortable, but needs a moment to accommodate. It’s funny because my school years are long over. Besides this pen had horrible F nib. Tines were perfectly aligned but it was so scratchy on left stroke that collecte

Awesome! I'm in the process of preparing my bag for our pen meet this weekend and I literally have none of the items you mention!! I'll see if I can find one or two!

@asota -- Yeah, I think I have a few rolls in my fridge that are probably 20-30 years old at this point (don't remember now if they are B&W or color film) and don't even really know where to get the film processed, once the drive through kiosks went away....  I just did a quick Google search and (in theory) there was a place the next town over from me -- but got a 404 error message when I tried to click on the link....  Ruth Morrisson aka inkstainedruth
