Ink Bottle Spill Preventer - Version 01

Hey everyone!

 

I just got this idea and tried it. I am new to fountain pens and have some ink bottles that are taller than I would like.

I am a klutz so I tried to figure out how to keep the bottles (ahem, Noodler's, ahem) from tipping over while I was filling them.

 

I took the box the ink came in and use only one other piece of cardboard to make this pretty stable stand for my Noodler's ink.

 

It is as simple as cutting the box down a bit, folding over the sides and taping the flaps to a square piece of cardboard.

 

I have included a graphic and two images of what I came up with. I used duct tape.

A "klutz" (like me) has no limits. I would also work in a tray, that I bought at the dollar store.

Do you have plastic gloves ?

Welcome home. Pull up a stump and set a spell. I just decided not to buy any new Noodle's ink. That made it even easier.

I have always been an inventor and problem solver. Most of my inventions don't go anywhere but this one works well.

I would have thrown out the box anyway.

 

I really like Noodler's bottled ink so it was in my best interest to find a way to make it more difficult to knock over a bottle while filling a pen.

 

As for Sasha's question about gloves, no, I do not wear gloves. I have tried Lava soap (doesn't work), I have tried the 'ink remover'. Doesn't work. I got a 'Mr. Pumice' on Amazon. Very inexpensive. It feels like a hard foam block but it is impregnated with pumice. It works really well with a little simple soap and water.

 

Plus, my work surface is packed to the gills. I don't really have room for a tray. Honestly, this kind of stand for my ink bottles has been working well. Ink samples is another story. I haven't figured out that one yet.

Bruce, here is a simple solution I used to keep from knocking over my ink sample vials. It could be anything, wood, plastic, soft metal. Just use the right sized drill bit for the vial.
