So my friend, Steve, just bought one of these for his girlfriend. Have any of you ever tried them? What do you think?

Fountain pens are my preferred COLOR DELIVERY SYSTEM (in part because crayons melt in Las Vegas).

They don't have color refills yet...

I did play with it for about a minute and thought it was really interesting and well made for the price.

And if you are a Massdrop member and can wait a little for it, they do have the best price on this. Otherwise it's only available on Amazon and The Bay of Evil both places are by the manufacturer.

If you want to join Massdrop and know someone who is already a member ask them for a join link. They should get some sort of reward after so many referrals and actual purchases. Not everything they list is at the best price then there is the wait, but on this one it was very fast by anybody's standard.

The discussion on some of the products can be very insightful and as it has with me, sent me elsewhere to buy something else.

How does this work, then? Looks like a BP/RB business end to me.

The tip of the pen is reciprocating and it has two speeds.

Sort of like a sewing machine?

Yes sir.

The thing is really neat to play with. When I get caught up on my other silly things I will spend some time with it.

One of the members on Massdrop did a pretty good quick review with some helpful hints. I would copy and paste it if he gives me permission to do so.

Thanks to Massdrop member Theroc for allowing me to copy and paste this. (hopefully he will join us here, soon).

A few notes that future buyers might find useful:
-Full charge is enough for about half an hour of continuous running; enough for an A5 page in my case.
-An A5 page at about 20-30% coverage used up roughly 5% of the refill, so a single refill should be more than enough for 20 A5-sized sketches.
-Works best when there is a hard surface underneath the paper to be sketched on. For journals and sketchbooks, heavy stock that lays flat and even under its on weight is best, otherwise one may have to keep the paper in place by applying pressure with the other hand.
-The trick is to find the sweet spot of tip-to-paper distance. This will come naturally after using the pen long enough.
-Cap does not post properly.

  • 1 month later...

It's back up on Massdrop if anyone is interested.

They need to get ten people to commit for a $42.99 price and if it goes up to twenty people the price again drops to $39.99.

Either way this is the best price to be found on this.

There is one negative comment in the discussion on this, so good luck and have fun.

Oh to have that translucent pink Prera! @migo984 has the Oeste series named after birds. There is a pink one, so I’m assuming Este is the same pen as Oeste.    Excellent haul. I have some Uniball One P pens. Do you like to use them? I like them enough, but don’t use them too much yet.    Do you or your wife use Travelers Notebooks? Seeing you were at Kyoto, I thought of them as there is a store there.

It's not nearly so thick that I feel it comprises my fine-grained control, the way I feel about the Cross Peerless 125 or some of the high-end TACCIA Urushi pens with cigar-shaped bodies and 18K gold nibs. Why would you expect me or anyone else to make explicit mention of it, if it isn't a travesty or such a disappointment that an owner of the pen would want to bring it to the attention of his/her peers so that they could “learn from his/her mistake” without paying the price?

Why nobody says that the section of Tuzu besides triangular shape is quite thick. Honestly it’s the thickest one among my many pens, other thick I own is Noodler’s Ahab. Because of that fat section I feel more control and my handwriting has improved. I can’t say it’s comfortable or uncomfortable, but needs a moment to accommodate. It’s funny because my school years are long over. Besides this pen had horrible F nib. Tines were perfectly aligned but it was so scratchy on left stroke that collecte

Awesome! I'm in the process of preparing my bag for our pen meet this weekend and I literally have none of the items you mention!! I'll see if I can find one or two!

@asota -- Yeah, I think I have a few rolls in my fridge that are probably 20-30 years old at this point (don't remember now if they are B&W or color film) and don't even really know where to get the film processed, once the drive through kiosks went away....  I just did a quick Google search and (in theory) there was a place the next town over from me -- but got a 404 error message when I tried to click on the link....  Ruth Morrisson aka inkstainedruth
