Burgundy - Robert Oster Signature Ink

Robert Oster is new player in fountain pen ink market. He operates through ebay shop. The inks are sold in 50 ml PET bottles with a tightly secure twist cap. I don't know who makes the inks for the shop, but the colors look interesting and fresh. At the moment Robert Oster inks are available in colors

On Robert Oster's shop website Fire Engine Red is described as follows: "Like a full bodied regional wine at just the right temperature. Burgundy flows on thick and fruity. Dries like a handsome, full bodied wine with a palette rich in rare spices."

The color is rather bright for a burgundy. I think it's not bad but it feels a little bnit dryish and there's so much bodeaux on the market that I don't think this one stands out in any way colorwise or behaviourwise.

Thanks for another review. After Royal Red, this is my least favourite Oster ink. I was very disappointed by the colour and the dryness. A forgettable ink I'm afraid.

I don't find this color very "burgundy".. .but it still is a looker on a nice wet flex nib.

Well, you know I'm going to disagree with you on this one :-) :-) It isn't even a "looker" when applied with a paintbrush, never mind a wet flex nib. And I've done that. Ignoring the Burgundy misnomer, it is not a very good ink to use. A good ink should at least lay down some colour from a bog-standard medium nib; this doesn't. And it's so dry & lacking dye load :-(

 

However, despite the very occasional poorer-performing ink, Oster Signature inks are generally excellent. There are some spectacular ones (Deep Sea, Blue Sea, Dark Chocolate, Moss, Barossa Grape, Lime Green, Red-Orange, Khaki etc etc), and Rob Oster himself is a class act. He certainly knows what his customers want, provides amazing service & is extremely kind too.

Barossa Grape and Aqua are amazing. It looks like the reds aren't the best of the RO inks, but RO is (as Migo notes) a class act.
