Yellow Sunset - Robert Oster Signature Ink

Right, I remember when I first read that I thought you were referring to darkening on the paper rather than in the pen.

Do many inks do this sort of thing? For some reason I am reminded that Robert also names inks after wines :).

I believe that ALL inks have the capability to darken in the pen... due to evaporation, the main factor would be how tight is the pen cap/seal.

The same way when ink cartridges darken with time. I usually have 12-15 pens inked at all time.. and I have noticed this effect on the ones I use not as often. They just happen to remained inked longer.

Yes, but in four days? Later today I will try scanning some neutral words from that page to show how surprising to me is the difference.

Yeah.. four days sounds way too fast. Mine was a few weeks.

Here are two samples scribbled in the ink book. They were five days apart, not four. Same pen of course, and not a refill.

There is more text than shown here, with the differences consistent.

In the second image there is also a parenthetic line written in Oster's Green Olive for comparison.

I think it just reacts with the residues of previous inks. Mine used to look very similar to your second sample, but now, after some time and second filling, it looks just fine.

Too true :). Alas, I am not your most colour-sensitive nor patient colour mixer. I sorta kinda hoped it might happen by chance, again and again and again and again.

Maybe not.

Awesome! I'm in the process of preparing my bag for our pen meet this weekend and I literally have none of the items you mention!! I'll see if I can find one or two!

@asota -- Yeah, I think I have a few rolls in my fridge that are probably 20-30 years old at this point (don't remember now if they are B&W or color film) and don't even really know where to get the film processed, once the drive through kiosks went away....  I just did a quick Google search and (in theory) there was a place the next town over from me -- but got a 404 error message when I tried to click on the link....  Ruth Morrisson aka inkstainedruth

There is still chemistry for processing regular chrome (positive) films like Kodak Ektachrome and Fuji Velvia, but Kodachrome was a completely different and multistep beast.

Ah, but how to get it processed - that is the question. I believe that the last machine able to run K-14 (Kodachrome processing) ceased to operate some 15 or so years ago. Perhaps the film will be worth something as a curiosity in my estate sale when I die. 😺

Take a lot of photos!   If the film has deteriorated or 'gone off' in any way, you can use that as a 'feature' to take 'arty' pictures - whether of landmarks, or people, or whatever.
