What Is The Best Orange Ink...?

I have been using Diamine/TWD orange and I am not at all happy with the properties of the ink.

The colors is okay but no shading, or sheen. However it is crippled with problem of Nib Crud.

Kindly suggest what is the best Orange ink out there... which actually is subtle and doesn't pop out.

Diamine has a number of orange inks and of all I have tried they are all well behaved and no ink crud issues. What is TWD?

L'Artisan Pastellier Classique Bouton d'Or

Buttercup, apparently - ignore the words I wrote. Received this as a gift sample, dunked a dip pen in and wrote on the nearest available piece of paper (no idea what it was).

I really like Pelikan Mandarin, but not sure how subtle it is. No sheen, but a little shading.

In think it's The Writing Desk. They sell a number of diamine inks in plastic 100ml bottles.

I've been using Caran d'Ache Electric Orange for the last month or so in my Pelikan m800 Burnt Orange.

I think the ink is pretty well-behaved (albeit a bit wet, but makes for a great writing experience with the nib) and the color is bright yet readable - good for everyday usage.

KWZ Orange is nice and easy to read. PE Mandarin is too light in my EF nib, but looks beautiful with a 1.1.

Of the bright oranges my favourites are, Diamine's Blaze Orange and Bungbox Fresh Oranges. There are a number of more subtle and different oranges (with differing overtones/undertones) that are really great, but if it's a straight up orange then the two mentioned.

Pelikan Mandarin or Diamine Pumpkin are my go to orange inks. Mandarin is excellently behaved but Pumpkin can suffer from a little nib crud if left too long. Diamine Gerbera is a good orange too with a lot of shading in my fat nibbed pens.

Many oranges look good but act out in the pen. The best I've found both in how it looks and acts is the Lamy Orange.

I have a bottle of Noodler's Habanero that I like. It has a mild shading characteristic. If you want something more extreme, look at Noodler's Apache Sunset. It is bold and has a strong shading character.

Omas Orange (new) > De Atramentis Orange (scented) > Lamy Copper Orange (At least in Europe only in cartridges).

...And in North America... ????

Have you seen the thread about orange inks? It's full of samples; really luscious.

Just wanted to know of properties also...not just the colour...

because I had few orange inks... from Diamine... which left in my pen for long time leaves Crud...

So thats y made a thread and asked the experts here...

I have Diamine Pumpkin which is certainly very bright and offers nice shading. It does tend towards nib crud but that is harmless and easy to wipe off - crud varies pen to pen and I think airtight caps prevent it.

I like Sailor Apricot, but it's impossible to find. Diamine Marigold is the closest match I have found to it.

Oh to have that translucent pink Prera! @migo984 has the Oeste series named after birds. There is a pink one, so I’m assuming Este is the same pen as Oeste.    Excellent haul. I have some Uniball One P pens. Do you like to use them? I like them enough, but don’t use them too much yet.    Do you or your wife use Travelers Notebooks? Seeing you were at Kyoto, I thought of them as there is a store there.

It's not nearly so thick that I feel it comprises my fine-grained control, the way I feel about the Cross Peerless 125 or some of the high-end TACCIA Urushi pens with cigar-shaped bodies and 18K gold nibs. Why would you expect me or anyone else to make explicit mention of it, if it isn't a travesty or such a disappointment that an owner of the pen would want to bring it to the attention of his/her peers so that they could “learn from his/her mistake” without paying the price?

Why nobody says that the section of Tuzu besides triangular shape is quite thick. Honestly it’s the thickest one among my many pens, other thick I own is Noodler’s Ahab. Because of that fat section I feel more control and my handwriting has improved. I can’t say it’s comfortable or uncomfortable, but needs a moment to accommodate. It’s funny because my school years are long over. Besides this pen had horrible F nib. Tines were perfectly aligned but it was so scratchy on left stroke that collecte

Awesome! I'm in the process of preparing my bag for our pen meet this weekend and I literally have none of the items you mention!! I'll see if I can find one or two!

@asota -- Yeah, I think I have a few rolls in my fridge that are probably 20-30 years old at this point (don't remember now if they are B&W or color film) and don't even really know where to get the film processed, once the drive through kiosks went away....  I just did a quick Google search and (in theory) there was a place the next town over from me -- but got a 404 error message when I tried to click on the link....  Ruth Morrisson aka inkstainedruth
