149 In Bordeaux?

Now I'm having doubts regarding my comments on similiarity of "the expressive" to "calligraphy flex"; looking at the calligraphy "curved" nib I also have, it has the same design / stamp, but it's absolutely NOTHING like the calligraphy flex...

Due to personal life constraints, I haven't been able to play with fountain pens for nearly 6 months now, and in the past couple of weeks acquired some heavy hitters, namely the Pilot Custom Urushi, the best Pilot nib has to offer, and a Montblanc 1912 Heritage. I thought the Pilot was an amazing nib, super soft, super flexy, in my memory "practically the same" as the Montblanc's 149 calligraphy flex. I also read a lot about how amazingly soft the 1912 Heritage is.

Last night I inked up my 149 calligraphy flex after almost 6 months and....yeah, it's nowhere close, this nib is SO. MUCH. BETTER. It's not even close. I immediately realized why I think this is THE best nib I have. The Pilot Custom Urushi doesn't spread even remotely the same, and the 1912 Heritage is basically a nail compared to it.

I don't understand why this had to be a limited / timed constrainted release. It's the best nib they've ever produced. I regret not buying one extra, as you have.

I ordered one in my normal brick and mortar shop ( Sakura pens in Diest ), but it really took months and still no news. At that moment I ordered one on line. Two weeks after delivery, my other order was in Diest.

Indeed it is just a little screw job.

@fpupulin I mounted the flex nib of one of my two black flex 149 in the new burgundy

@Tom Kellie it came from the online shop. Normal shops will get their burgundy 149 starting this month

My burgundy 149 should be shipped tomorrow after which I will transplant my "the expressive" nib into it. Honestly can't wait.

I have received the pen and the transplant is successful. Pretty happy with this setup. This is my "permanently inked" setup. The calligraphy flex in black body, and the expressive in burgundy body.

The burgundy release has slightly different colour of hardware; I believe it might be rose gold? It's definitely not the same yellow gold. But the difference is not big enough to take away from the experience.IMG_0712.thumb.jpeg.3defbade4b8d370c62f1762b02bc1932.jpegIMG_0713.thumb.jpeg.3dd6fa60e8b4e861c47834efcbb0a874.jpegIMG_0710.thumb.jpeg.9554f379c3f7b8bebf52bcde511ecbe5.jpeg

It's not, in reality the difference is distinct, but my iphone is not able to pick up on the difference at all.

@Uncial

You can objectify this color difference between the two clips by disassembling them both and inspecting them side by side against the same background so that you can rule out the interference of the burgundy or black cap.

Hey guys,

this is the best I can do and I think it also quite realistically reflects the difference at least in artificial light. Natural light who knows, at this time we basically still get almost no natural light in these parts of the world :D

You can clearly see the burgundy has a more silvery gold, unlike the black one that has this very yellow gold.

~ @invisuu: Many thanks for the various images.

The comparison photos are especially appreciated.

May your new Burgundy 149 bring much happiness!

It is good to have a choice but am I the only person who prefers a black 149?

Thank you Tom!

I also prefer the black one, but this burgundy is actually really nice with the whiter gold. It looks very good. I, however, primarily wanted a distinguished look from the outside for my two special 149 nibs, so I can tell them apart easily. That was my primary objective. If there were, say, navy blue with yellow gold combination, I wouldn't even think about the burgundy...

It appears that the black version has gold that's tarnished since it's been exposed to air a lot longer without cleaning. If you polish it, it will match the red in the gold tone.

I initially also thought of this, but it isn't that. I asked Fritz Schimpf and he confirmed that the hardware is indeed different colour on the burgundy.

hmm, perhaps they're cheaping out by using lower karats now that gold is at astronomical levels?

They have used champagne gold in their solitaires, doues and a few other special editions for a good while now. Maybe they put it on this one, but when i look at mine i can't honestly say i see a notable difference

Oh to have that translucent pink Prera! @migo984 has the Oeste series named after birds. There is a pink one, so I’m assuming Este is the same pen as Oeste.    Excellent haul. I have some Uniball One P pens. Do you like to use them? I like them enough, but don’t use them too much yet.    Do you or your wife use Travelers Notebooks? Seeing you were at Kyoto, I thought of them as there is a store there.

It's not nearly so thick that I feel it comprises my fine-grained control, the way I feel about the Cross Peerless 125 or some of the high-end TACCIA Urushi pens with cigar-shaped bodies and 18K gold nibs. Why would you expect me or anyone else to make explicit mention of it, if it isn't a travesty or such a disappointment that an owner of the pen would want to bring it to the attention of his/her peers so that they could “learn from his/her mistake” without paying the price?

Why nobody says that the section of Tuzu besides triangular shape is quite thick. Honestly it’s the thickest one among my many pens, other thick I own is Noodler’s Ahab. Because of that fat section I feel more control and my handwriting has improved. I can’t say it’s comfortable or uncomfortable, but needs a moment to accommodate. It’s funny because my school years are long over. Besides this pen had horrible F nib. Tines were perfectly aligned but it was so scratchy on left stroke that collecte

Awesome! I'm in the process of preparing my bag for our pen meet this weekend and I literally have none of the items you mention!! I'll see if I can find one or two!

@asota -- Yeah, I think I have a few rolls in my fridge that are probably 20-30 years old at this point (don't remember now if they are B&W or color film) and don't even really know where to get the film processed, once the drive through kiosks went away....  I just did a quick Google search and (in theory) there was a place the next town over from me -- but got a 404 error message when I tried to click on the link....  Ruth Morrisson aka inkstainedruth
