Crack On Transparent Barrel

Recommended Posts

Hi!

I've got some experience with MEK, but this time I received a pen with cracks on transparent part of the barrel. I am not sure if it is still OK to use MEK also here. What is the best way to repair this kind of defects?

I wander if you could dip a pencil head in MEK and just write over the crack??

It is vintage German piston filler pen from the fifties. I think it is just ordinary plastic.

I could. But the cracks still will be visible, aren't they?

I'd guess it is an injection molded acrylic. If so MEK will cloud the surface. even with a very good weld, on clear materials it is almost impossible to make the crack lines invisible b

ok. The most I concerned - is to prevent it from the further progression. I've got the pen as is, and don't know what is the cause of the cracks.
