Sailor recently re-released the old four seasons inks. Sadly it's a limited edition (again!). I managed to get another three of them: Chu-shu, Waka-uguisu and Yuki-akari.

Murky green lovers may enjoy this ink. But seriously, this ink is not special in anyway. At this price and all the trouble in obtaining this ink I can't recommend this ink. There are cheaper and better choices out there.

(photo, scan. The scan turns out too yellow. The photo is slightly too green. The actual colour is more like something in between.)

Comparison

(Waka-uguisu, Sailor Joyful-2 Tsumagoi Leaf Green, Sailor Bung Box Tsuyu-hikari, Iroshizuku Chiku-rin, Montblanc Daniel Defoe, R&K Alt-goldgrun, Penbbs #157 Hangzhou, Penbbs #159 Wakaba.)

For something cheap and easy to get, with maybe even more gorgeous shading, get Alt-goldgrun. For equal trouble in getting this ink, I'd suggest hunting down a bottle of Defoe.

......I hate to see beautifully composed ink reviews of lemited editions, especially murky greens.(*weeps)

 

Rumor has it that Sailor is planning to make the old four seasons line a regular series, and I really hope it's true and soon!

Thanks for the review. :) It's exactly the kind of murky green I like, so I'm glad I got a bottle. But from the comparison, I like Defoe better. :(

 

I'm surprised Alt Goldgrün is so much more yellow-toned though, it always seems quite green to me when I write with it.

I was once a bottle of ink, Inky Dinky Thinky Inky, Blacky Minky Bottle of Ink!

I like Waka-Uguiso.. at the same time, I don't feel the need to buy a second bottle.

 

I usually don't stock more than 1 bottle... with Exceptions, like Rikyu-Cha, Alfred Hitchcock.. etc. Right now, I am thinking that I should have bought a second bottle of DanielDefoe... :puddle: :puddle: :puddle: :puddle:

Terrific comparison!

Fountain pens are my preferred COLOR DELIVERY SYSTEM (in part because crayons melt in Las Vegas).

Ah! Thank you for this terrific review! You have retrieved a lot of the complex and not very easy potential of Wake-Uguisu. Your comparison with other green inks is especially interesting and illuminating. I see a confirmation of my own ink tests: Rohrer & Klinger's Altgoldgrün is somehow similar - but sometimes underestimated although it is an excellent and lush moss green.

I have an old agave plant in my garden in Los Angeles and every December when it flowers there is a little olive bird that visits and climbs up the flowering stalks to sip nectar from the flowers. I have always called him "olive bird", but this year I looked him up and think his name is "Veriole Warbler". I told my Japanese friend about him and she replied that in Japan his name is Uguisu 鶯 and he is taken as a harbinger of Spring.

I have 10,000 green inks and have never been particularly drawn to this one, but it is a good match for my drab little visitor so I think I'll pick up a box of cartriges at least!

      Oh to have that translucent pink Prera! @migo984 has the Oeste series named after birds. There is a pink one, so I’m assuming Este is the same pen as Oeste.    Excellent haul. I have some Uniball One P pens. Do you like to use them? I like them enough, but don’t use them too much yet.    Do you or your wife use Travelers Notebooks? Seeing you were at Kyoto, I thought of them as there is a store there.

      It's not nearly so thick that I feel it comprises my fine-grained control, the way I feel about the Cross Peerless 125 or some of the high-end TACCIA Urushi pens with cigar-shaped bodies and 18K gold nibs. Why would you expect me or anyone else to make explicit mention of it, if it isn't a travesty or such a disappointment that an owner of the pen would want to bring it to the attention of his/her peers so that they could “learn from his/her mistake” without paying the price?

      Why nobody says that the section of Tuzu besides triangular shape is quite thick. Honestly it’s the thickest one among my many pens, other thick I own is Noodler’s Ahab. Because of that fat section I feel more control and my handwriting has improved. I can’t say it’s comfortable or uncomfortable, but needs a moment to accommodate. It’s funny because my school years are long over. Besides this pen had horrible F nib. Tines were perfectly aligned but it was so scratchy on left stroke that collecte

      Awesome! I'm in the process of preparing my bag for our pen meet this weekend and I literally have none of the items you mention!! I'll see if I can find one or two!

      @asota -- Yeah, I think I have a few rolls in my fridge that are probably 20-30 years old at this point (don't remember now if they are B&W or color film) and don't even really know where to get the film processed, once the drive through kiosks went away....  I just did a quick Google search and (in theory) there was a place the next town over from me -- but got a 404 error message when I tried to click on the link....  Ruth Morrisson aka inkstainedruth
