Is It A Real Mont Blanc Starwalker?

Recommended Posts

Need some help here please. I bought a Mont Blanc Starwalker Mystery Black on Ebay from what seemed a good seller (99.4% with 15,000+ comments). Got pen and if a fake it is a very very good one. Price was 300, so very good price but no steal. couple giveaways: 1-box is high quality but not as shiny as another I have; 2- Service guide is unlike any I have seen online with different cover pattern and back at warranty page there is a "Printed in China"; 3-the box on the back has embossed very small "Box made in China"; 4- Exterior box is labeled "Printed in China"; 5- but the biggie is that the pen when disassembled has the threaded male component on the lower assembly and not the upper assembly. All I could see online showed the upper barrel assembly contained the male threaded part and fit into the female thread in the lower assembly. Mine is just backwards. See photos.

I have seen lower assembly male threads on MB fountain pens but not on these, at least online. This is my first Starwalker and is a gift and hate to give a fake. Any help from you experts would be most welcome.

thx-Bobby

[member='FishDr']  So just talked with MB directly and they said its fake, they do nothing whatsoever with China, not in boxes, printing, anything.

Unless you really like the pen for the money spent on it, I would be looking for a refund. I would think there was an accurate description on the bay and potential reference to China.

I would return it 100% - I have a Starwalker RB and it writes so well, I would almost give up FP's. Costs CAD 300 at Costco here and a bit over US$200 in US Costco's...

It is very suspicious. I suggest you try searching for the serial number online. If it comes up then it's a fake. :(

Not completely true. The newest booklet is printed in China.
By the way: I have the same pen, bought at a Montblanc boutique, and I honestly can't see any difference between mine and yours. Must be a very good fake.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
