Jinhao Safari Clone Review

Hi all!

So I got this pen for free when I ordered some Robert Oster Inks, which you can see the review for here: https://www.fountainpennetwork.com/forum/topic/307871-robert-oster-signature-inks/. That review was written with this Jinhao Safari clone too. So without further ado, here is my review of this pen, followed by some pictures of the pen itself.

Note also that the pen is prone to start dry if left uncapped.

Regarding dry starting, I believe this is an issue with the ink I am using rsther than the pen.

Also if you're looking for this model, it's the Jinhal 599 and can also be had in transparent. I've ordered some more of these, cheapest supplier on ebay is rohlin1010: http://stores.ebay.com.au/rohlin1010/_i.html?_nkw=Jinhao&submit=Search&_sid=1099028654.

Very affordable pen at $1.99 AUD delivered. Very surprised also that this one had an F nib as mostly you find the Jinhao's in M. Great that I've got an F nib of theres now as as far as I'm aware it's interchangeable with their other models. Will let you know for sure when I get the others in.

I find this to be a perfect pen for students as the grip assists in maintaining the standard of your writing. I also like that they are leightweight but have a long body.

I like my Jinhao 599 in transparent blue more than I like my Lamy Safari...

Yeah I had a look at the Safari's in store at my Uni. Lamy is the only FP brand our bookstore carries (surprised they carry any). They were selling them for almost $50AUD. Just the price difference alone makes me like the Jinhao's better, especially since I didn't find the Lamy was anything special to write with in comparison.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
