What Pelikan? Or A Frankenpen?

Great. Hope your friend soon comes up with the 400 cap. In the meantime it looks quite attractive with the 140 cap.

Peter, got lucky to have found a 400 cap for the 400 pen as well a 140 pen for the 140 cap.

I wasn't expecting I would be able to find the 400 cap for the pen so soon let alone finding, at the same timea, a capless 140 pen for the cap. I feel truly indebted to my pen supplier friend in Karachi.

The nib seems to be from 80's or beginning of 90's.

Do you have a picture of the feeder?

The pen has arrived.

Some observations:

The nib is not bent. It does not hit the top of the cap when capped.

The cap is of a 140 as inscribed on the cap band.

The nib is M.

The piston is working smoothly.

The barrel internal is super clean with no traces of dried ink.

So I assume a good frankenpen.

You are right. The feed is the one with the horizontal fines and collar with mteal lips. So, as you say, from late 80s/early 90s. My 400NN, however, has the ebonite feed having longitudinal fins and fraction fit plastic collar. The nib and feed of the 400NN come out when I pull them, carefully, without the collar that remains firmly lodged inside the section.

I haven't tried taking out the nib and the ebonite feed (with the longtitudinal fins) of my 140, though.

That means the 400NN plastic collar is split, as they all do, It is a screw fit and you will need to remove the collar very carefully and don't chip the lip as I did with one pen. Check it with a lupe and you will probably spot the crack. This was a very weak point with the 400NN.

Peter, the collar is not split. It is safe, sound and as healthy as can be. I soaked the section in room temperature water for half an hour and then unscrewed it.

Here are the feed, nib and collar:

Edited to add 'unscrewed the nib unit as a whole after inserting the nib and feed a little further until it was seated well in its place'.

Great. You got one of the "proper" collars. It's the later clear plastic ones that split. You should have no trouble provided the nib and feed are seated correctly. Really pleased for you as they are great nibs.

Thank you Peter. What was your pen whose collar lips you chipped and were you able to find a replacement collar/nib unit for that pen?

That was a 400NN. Fine now, the chip was very small and doesn't cause any leak as it is above the threaded portion.

Oh to have that translucent pink Prera! @migo984 has the Oeste series named after birds. There is a pink one, so I’m assuming Este is the same pen as Oeste.    Excellent haul. I have some Uniball One P pens. Do you like to use them? I like them enough, but don’t use them too much yet.    Do you or your wife use Travelers Notebooks? Seeing you were at Kyoto, I thought of them as there is a store there.

It's not nearly so thick that I feel it comprises my fine-grained control, the way I feel about the Cross Peerless 125 or some of the high-end TACCIA Urushi pens with cigar-shaped bodies and 18K gold nibs. Why would you expect me or anyone else to make explicit mention of it, if it isn't a travesty or such a disappointment that an owner of the pen would want to bring it to the attention of his/her peers so that they could “learn from his/her mistake” without paying the price?

Why nobody says that the section of Tuzu besides triangular shape is quite thick. Honestly it’s the thickest one among my many pens, other thick I own is Noodler’s Ahab. Because of that fat section I feel more control and my handwriting has improved. I can’t say it’s comfortable or uncomfortable, but needs a moment to accommodate. It’s funny because my school years are long over. Besides this pen had horrible F nib. Tines were perfectly aligned but it was so scratchy on left stroke that collecte

Awesome! I'm in the process of preparing my bag for our pen meet this weekend and I literally have none of the items you mention!! I'll see if I can find one or two!

@asota -- Yeah, I think I have a few rolls in my fridge that are probably 20-30 years old at this point (don't remember now if they are B&W or color film) and don't even really know where to get the film processed, once the drive through kiosks went away....  I just did a quick Google search and (in theory) there was a place the next town over from me -- but got a 404 error message when I tried to click on the link....  Ruth Morrisson aka inkstainedruth
