Cheap Montblanc?

I recently picked up one of the Montblanc Noblesse (type 1) fountain pens on Ebay for about $100. It writes like a dream. Not quite as flashy as the Meisterstucks (mine is skinny and a bit understated in its stainless steel trim) but it has the Montblanc logos and writes about as well as my Meisterstuck 147.

I have a set of Noblesse FP/RB/BP/pencil I bought in the '70's for $20-$25 each. It has, unlike other, pricier Montblancs, lasted for all that time and still performs well. I also have some other MBs that sold for $30-50 in the early '80's that still work and haven't cracked, unlike, unfortunately, my 146.

If you cast your line in German eBay, and are patient, you can find some bargoons. This past Xmas I landed an early 3-42G M for around $80, and a 254 BB for roughly $120. Neither are even remotely mint, but both are extremely satisfying writers.

As jar said above, vintage is the way to go: they really knew how to make a nib back then.

ETA: The 3-42G came with a 22 that was missing its clip, but did have a nice and juicy M nib. Eighty bucks for two Montblancs...be patient and win.

Thanks, I'll have to keep a look out there.

Okay I have ended up ordering a 144 (a maroon one) ....

Officially "bordeaux," not to be confused with another Montblanc color, "burgundy."

Awesome! I'm in the process of preparing my bag for our pen meet this weekend and I literally have none of the items you mention!! I'll see if I can find one or two!

@asota -- Yeah, I think I have a few rolls in my fridge that are probably 20-30 years old at this point (don't remember now if they are B&W or color film) and don't even really know where to get the film processed, once the drive through kiosks went away....  I just did a quick Google search and (in theory) there was a place the next town over from me -- but got a 404 error message when I tried to click on the link....  Ruth Morrisson aka inkstainedruth

There is still chemistry for processing regular chrome (positive) films like Kodak Ektachrome and Fuji Velvia, but Kodachrome was a completely different and multistep beast.

Ah, but how to get it processed - that is the question. I believe that the last machine able to run K-14 (Kodachrome processing) ceased to operate some 15 or so years ago. Perhaps the film will be worth something as a curiosity in my estate sale when I die. 😺

Take a lot of photos!   If the film has deteriorated or 'gone off' in any way, you can use that as a 'feature' to take 'arty' pictures - whether of landmarks, or people, or whatever.
