Ah sorry, I should have been clearer - it wasn't so much a hint for scanning in this case, but for WirsPlm's difficulty with showthrough and Tomoe River.

This is a great review. Just to add to it.... I took some TR paper and wrote on it, then sent it to another FPNer who washed it with Bath and Body Works Pumpkin soap. Wait until you see the results.

Fountain pens are my preferred COLOR DELIVERY SYSTEM (in part because crayons melt in Las Vegas).

He was under the impression that the TR paper only came in one weight. Is this concept at variance with reality?

Actually, the entirety of FPN is at variance with reality.

 

Allegedly three weights are available.

Goulet has come out with several notebooks using 68 gsm Tomoe River paper, lined or dot grid. Naturally, they are "out of stock."

Two other considerations for FP-friendly paper, one Japanese, one Taiwanese.

 

Graphilo in A4 sheets, or notebooks (lined, graph, blank). Writes like a dream and can easily be used double-sided. Very little show-through. I think it's 80gsm. I bought mine via WRE.

 

Taroko Mystique A5 journals, Orchid 80gsm, subtle pale grey true dot grid printed (not the awful (IMO) cross hatch print from Nanami), 400 pages, index at front and keyword/hash tag pages at back. Binding and covers very similar to Nanami journals in style, but cheaper and much lower shipping outside US. I'm very impressed with this one.

 

Plus, of course, the 68gsm Tomoe A5 dot grid journals 420 pages, also from Steven Chang at TarokoShop.

Could possibly be. I know a London store will likely be selling his journals sometime soon........

 

I have to say I like his Orchid 80gsm - it's as good as 68gsm Tomoe with the pens I've tried on it so far.

 

By the way, Steven Chang is a pleasure to deal with, which is a big plus in my book.

If anyone has one of the Goulet TR ruled notebooks I'd like to know how the ruling looks. The Nanami/Seven Seas Writer I got is very nice but the ruling is so faint as to be almost useless to my eyes.

It's strange that Goulet are saying their Tomoe notebooks are exclusive. I know at least 2 other sellers of the same A5 64 page 68gsm booklets.

Having acquired some of the new (to me) Muji refill papers, and a couple of notebooks, I thought I would update this thread. I have also added another column of results - Spreading - to rate how much these papers permit sideways spreading of the ink. Finally I added a control, Rhodia notebook paper, so I could reate the width of written lines to what happens on that paper.

      @asota -- Yeah, I think I have a few rolls in my fridge that are probably 20-30 years old at this point (don't remember now if they are B&W or color film) and don't even really know where to get the film processed, once the drive through kiosks went away....  I just did a quick Google search and (in theory) there was a place the next town over from me -- but got a 404 error message when I tried to click on the link....  Ruth Morrisson aka inkstainedruth

      There is still chemistry for processing regular chrome (positive) films like Kodak Ektachrome and Fuji Velvia, but Kodachrome was a completely different and multistep beast.

      Ah, but how to get it processed - that is the question. I believe that the last machine able to run K-14 (Kodachrome processing) ceased to operate some 15 or so years ago. Perhaps the film will be worth something as a curiosity in my estate sale when I die. 😺

      Take a lot of photos!   If the film has deteriorated or 'gone off' in any way, you can use that as a 'feature' to take 'arty' pictures - whether of landmarks, or people, or whatever.
