Turquoise - Pelikan 4001®

The 4001 ink is a well-established brand by Pelikan from the very first beginning of the company. It was first mentioned in a price-list from 1897 and proved its worth within all the years. Ink 4001 was registered as a number only, during years there was plenty of colors on the market. However in recent years the line didn't change at all. Happily Pelikan decided to invest not only in Edelstein line but also in 4001 (much cheaper) line and introduced new ink (Dark Green) in january 2016. You may find it interesting that Pelikan 4001 are the only inks that can be bought practically in every B&M store in Poland.

At the moment the line consists of

Turquoise is an absolute classic. It's great ink - well behaved, affordable and nicely saturated. Not my color but if you enjoy Turquoises this one doesn't disappoint.

Excellent review. Not my favorite color, although I do like currently discontinued Sheaffer Peacock Blue.

This was my first bottle of ink and it's still my favorite turquoise. Thanks for showing it off so nicely, vis. I think Pelikan 4001 inks are woefully underrrated.

I find that with a finer nib it actually looks a little darker.

I'd be interested to see a side-by-side with Diamine Turquoise (which so far is the closest i've come to a replacement for Skrip Peacock for color) and also with Diamine Havusu Turquoise (which is too dark to mimic Skrip Peacock but is very nice in its own right; and seems somewhat similar to Edelstein Topaz).

My favourite turquoise, not as green as most others and doesn't get on my nerves.

 

But the KWZI IG turquoise is making inroads into my heart...

Great review, Vis! With all of the incredibly shading and sheeting turquoise inks out on the market, this one does not compare.

I like this one, but I find that Lamy Turquoise and Monteverde Turquoise have a bit of a red sheen to them. I haven't noticed that with the Pelikan.

Thank you for the review, visvamitra - it prompted me to ink up the last of my bottle and refresh my memory. It's one of the few colourful inks I trust not to mess up my white M205 and just a lovely reliable ink; I'm convinced if it was five times the price and in a fancy bottle, people would send across oceans for it. Possibly my favourite 4001.
