Sailor Inks All Time Favorites

Calibrating

Recommended Posts

I've been looking through Inky Thoughts for three days now; almost consecutively. It becomes a spinning whirl of color with bits of knowledge flying around, not yet settling. : )

Like old movies start to stand out as favorites, or good books.... what would you consider Sailor's all time best colors? I know new movies/books/inks are exciting, but I'm wondering which colors have stood the test of time.

All in fun. I'm too new at this to have any opinion but I hope to some day. : )

Kiwa-guro ;)

Sourakuen Tea Green, Minatogawa Lime, Rokko Green, Waka-uguisu (slightly earthy spring green), Miruai (greenish teal black), Rikyu-cha (green-brown chameleon)... Sailor really knows how to make a green.

There are several other colours I tried and sold because they were too bright for me (Yuku-akari, a turquoise, and Sakura-mori, a pink) or too purple (Fuji-musume), but I still want to have them all back.

I can't say which are my favorites as I only have a small sample of them but...

Jentle Tokiwa-Matsu, Shousaikan Seiran and Kiwaguro are on my top list >.<

Pen and Message Cigar and Bungbox L'Amant might be there if I finally get a hold of these inks... I still kind of like to get Pen and Message Fuyu-gare and some Kobe inks...

You still haven't received the sample? I sent it from Broomfield, Colorado four or five weeks ago. USPS told me to expect 7-21 days plus any customs time there. It went as an airmail packet.

Since I'm quite new to this hobby/obsession I haven't tried that many. But so far Bungbox 4B and Sei-boku have the top spots.

Another vote for Kiwa-guro!!

I'm using it in 5 different Pilot and Sailor pens (with EF and SEF nibs...)...No problems!!

And....despite putting down a VERY fine line....make NO mistake....

This is a BLACK INK!!:)

Always try to get the dibs....on fountain pens with EF nibs!!

As a lover of teal, Yama-dori.

Life's too short to use crappy pens.  -carlos.q

While there are certainly many favorites amongst the Japanese store exclusives, the standard Sailor line as it is now is not too shabby either. Shigure, Nioi-sumire, Doyou, Yama-dori, Kiwa-guro. All most excellent. And Tokiwa-matsu, Souten, Miruai are highly regarded. I don't have the red, Oku-yama.

Sky High is probably my all-time favorite ink, still mourning it's loss.

Kiwa-Guro is my favorite black. So yeah, Sailor inks rock.

I love Sailor ink. I just wish that the standard line was bigger, like Iroshizuku. Stop making so many shop exclusives and put those colors out for themselves. My favorites are Yama-Dori, Souten, and Shigure.

I've never owned or tried any Sailor inks. I'll have to give a few of them a whirl in the coming months.

+1 on on that. One of my favorite blue inks.

"It's very nice, but frankly, when I signed that list for a P-51, what I had in mind was a fountain pen."

Oh to have that translucent pink Prera! @migo984 has the Oeste series named after birds. There is a pink one, so I’m assuming Este is the same pen as Oeste.    Excellent haul. I have some Uniball One P pens. Do you like to use them? I like them enough, but don’t use them too much yet.    Do you or your wife use Travelers Notebooks? Seeing you were at Kyoto, I thought of them as there is a store there.

It's not nearly so thick that I feel it comprises my fine-grained control, the way I feel about the Cross Peerless 125 or some of the high-end TACCIA Urushi pens with cigar-shaped bodies and 18K gold nibs. Why would you expect me or anyone else to make explicit mention of it, if it isn't a travesty or such a disappointment that an owner of the pen would want to bring it to the attention of his/her peers so that they could “learn from his/her mistake” without paying the price?

Why nobody says that the section of Tuzu besides triangular shape is quite thick. Honestly it’s the thickest one among my many pens, other thick I own is Noodler’s Ahab. Because of that fat section I feel more control and my handwriting has improved. I can’t say it’s comfortable or uncomfortable, but needs a moment to accommodate. It’s funny because my school years are long over. Besides this pen had horrible F nib. Tines were perfectly aligned but it was so scratchy on left stroke that collecte

Awesome! I'm in the process of preparing my bag for our pen meet this weekend and I literally have none of the items you mention!! I'll see if I can find one or two!

@asota -- Yeah, I think I have a few rolls in my fridge that are probably 20-30 years old at this point (don't remember now if they are B&W or color film) and don't even really know where to get the film processed, once the drive through kiosks went away....  I just did a quick Google search and (in theory) there was a place the next town over from me -- but got a 404 error message when I tried to click on the link....  Ruth Morrisson aka inkstainedruth
