Montblanc For BMW

Well, I just went into my MB boutique here (one of the three downtown) to pick up my Golden Yellow and they asked me if I perhaps had any chance of taking a peek at their newest ink... their "MONTBLANC for BMW". So I said of course "Of course not!, just put a bottle into the bag and I'm off". So I got their last bottle, just like the last bottle of their Golden Yellow. They said that both are coming and going like crazy. I just thought I'd whip out a micro-review for you too, to at least take a peek.

First off, it's a medium blue, a "true" blue, less red than e.g. their own Royal Blue (see below). Here's three pens on one paper, my usual 80 g/m2 copy paper Avery Zweckform (IMO better than most el cheapos including HP for copying, printing etc etc as advertised everywhere).

Secondly, it's got good behaviour, writing nicely on one small array of paper types I often use. No feathering, no bleeding (except on 1917 which is no surprise). Fast drying time of 3-4 seconds with this glass dip pen on that Avery paper.

Lastly (for today) it is a nice blue. Less red than their Royal Blue. Again, with the Herbin glass dip pen. Only a very little tickle of green but that's what heads us off into the desired direction, as discussed so often here in the last few days and weeks (I think).

As to availability... it's in a 30-ml cubic bottle, just like the Golden Yellow and Pink Ink. Also... it's a LE and will soon be gone (just like Pink and Twilight Blue are now gone). It came in at 17.00 Euros, whereas e.g. the Golden Yellow was only 14.50 (just like all of their standard shoes today).

I'd say: "Get it if and when you can!".

See y'all later....

Thanks for the quick review of this new ink. Any idea how the color compares to MB Permanent Blue?

Well, why didn't I think of that myself? Thanks for the good message. Again, using the Herbin glass dip pen on Clairefontaine's Velouté 90:

I'm afraid that the MB Blue Permanent is even more off than the MB Royal Blue is. You never can have enough blues....

I'll just stick with the Permanent, for the time being.

Thank you for this amazing review! Can't wait for it to hit our stores as well. Although they don't have the Golden Yellow, yet.

Any chance we can see a pic of the packaging/box and bottle? They're part of the experience you see :)

Sure can! Let's start off with the outside parts first:

fpn_1514211913__mb_for_bmw_5.jpg

That's the front of the box, and that's all there is to see there. Well, as long as the ink is great, no complaint, I mean, there at least is this box going along with the bottle....

fpn_1514211965__mb_for_bmw_6.jpg.

And that's the back of the box. There is nothing printed on the rest of the box, except for the Montblanc symbol up top (as always), and...

fpn_1514212023__mb_for_bmw_7.jpg

... on the bottom of the box, the most important information. Don't forget to note elsewhere in your inventories at least the Ident. Nr. as this is often handy to have when your'e trying to track down a MB ink which is no longer issued. Or e.g. for distinguishing between old and new MB blue-black IG bottles or between the latest MB blue-black IG versus its non-IG successor. Whew!

fpn_1514212079__mb_for_bmw_8.jpg

And now the real McCow itself, the bottle, which -- maybe for me alone a nice glass ink bottle with an excellent cap -- is really nothing new. It's the same creation offered with most of the other 30-ml MB inks these days, like Winter Glow, through JFK right up to Pink Ink. (At least those inks had more interestingly designed boxes.) There is nothing to be seen on any of the sides of these bottles, just only...

... on the bottom.

I'd still say, get a bottle if you can. IMO a beautiful blue, a well-made ink.

Thanks Mike for the pics :) I called they don't have it yet, but you enticed me to try out that blue- can never have enough no?

I am surprised that the outer box is somewhat, spartan? Just a plain white with no design/art or even color. Strange of Montblanc if you ask me

I can't say that I hate the box, but it is IMO better than no box at all. And/or, it's like designing the box for a plain ol' wheelbarrow. I mean, I thought that a BMW was supposed to be something special on wheels....

But I do love the ink!

Hey, so is this going to be one of the limited editions offered by Montblanc boutiques or is this something that is mostly going to be offered as a promotion or through BMW? Either way, you are lucky, I want a bottle!!

The staff at the MB boutique told me that this ink is [A] a LE, and a promotion for and/or from BMW. In contrast to a lot of other MB LE inks, there is no FP offered together with this ink (chronologically seen), as was the case e.g. with the JFK SE FP. Then we have the reverse story in regard to their newest (AFAIK) FP Andy Warhol, for which no ink has been issued.

Whew!

Oh to have that translucent pink Prera! @migo984 has the Oeste series named after birds. There is a pink one, so I’m assuming Este is the same pen as Oeste.    Excellent haul. I have some Uniball One P pens. Do you like to use them? I like them enough, but don’t use them too much yet.    Do you or your wife use Travelers Notebooks? Seeing you were at Kyoto, I thought of them as there is a store there.

It's not nearly so thick that I feel it comprises my fine-grained control, the way I feel about the Cross Peerless 125 or some of the high-end TACCIA Urushi pens with cigar-shaped bodies and 18K gold nibs. Why would you expect me or anyone else to make explicit mention of it, if it isn't a travesty or such a disappointment that an owner of the pen would want to bring it to the attention of his/her peers so that they could “learn from his/her mistake” without paying the price?

Why nobody says that the section of Tuzu besides triangular shape is quite thick. Honestly it’s the thickest one among my many pens, other thick I own is Noodler’s Ahab. Because of that fat section I feel more control and my handwriting has improved. I can’t say it’s comfortable or uncomfortable, but needs a moment to accommodate. It’s funny because my school years are long over. Besides this pen had horrible F nib. Tines were perfectly aligned but it was so scratchy on left stroke that collecte

Awesome! I'm in the process of preparing my bag for our pen meet this weekend and I literally have none of the items you mention!! I'll see if I can find one or two!

@asota -- Yeah, I think I have a few rolls in my fridge that are probably 20-30 years old at this point (don't remember now if they are B&W or color film) and don't even really know where to get the film processed, once the drive through kiosks went away....  I just did a quick Google search and (in theory) there was a place the next town over from me -- but got a 404 error message when I tried to click on the link....  Ruth Morrisson aka inkstainedruth
