Gold Filled Pencil - Lead Falls Out

Bloku

Recommended Posts

Well... I bought a eversharp pencil that is gold filled and I can write ok but the lead will fall if I hold it vertical and tap the top. Also, the lead likes to spin if I write at some different angles. Could It just be that I have only 2cm's of lead :D ? Sorry if it is a really easy fix... Thanks... from a first-timer :)

It is possible that the lead you are using is not quite the correct diameter. It uses 1.1 mm leads.

I am hoping that! The lead I ordered is taking much longer than I thought that it would have... I will tell yall if that is the problem! I hope the fix is that easy :)

I found one recently at a car boot sale (still boxed, and still full of leads, as it turned out!) So did a bit of research as I was going to sell it on the Bay but then fell in love with it and can't part with it.

Battersea Pen Home told me you need the Yard O Led leads. I enquired before I realised my pencil was still full of original Eversharps. But I have seen more than one box of original Eversharp 'Red Top' leads on eBay - one went last week for £4 (I forgot to bid). It says on the leaflet in my box that the Eversharp ones are distinctive as they are grooved. The ones in my pencil are grooved so I'm guessing they're originals. So if the leads you ordered don't fit - boxed originals do seem to come up on the Bay.

I am no pencil expert, but I would like to second the notion that you need 1.1 mm leads. I got mine from "Retro 51" brand refills at Paradise Pen on line.

The other issue I once encountered with pencil lead falling out was that there was still a small piece of old lead inside the pencil, but I thought it was the metal part that propelled the lead. Once I cleared out the tiny nub of old lead it all worked better.

Hope one of these ideas help.

The correct lead for this pencil is .046 (1.1mm) and no more than 1 3/8 inches long. If it's falling out, you have the wrong diameter lead, because these pencils were designed so that the tip holds a .046 inch lead in place by friction. I've got the leads you need -- google "Legendary Lead Company" or look it up on facebook and you can't miss me.

Caution: Do no use Eversharp's ill-conceived "square leads" in these. You will be disappointed.

Not to be stickler, but the lead you need is as Jon states .046" but that converts to 1.18mm. That extra 8/100"can be important. As Jon also says depending on the year and model, some of these these pencil cones were called "rifled" and many had square cone channel tips and the square lead which was not really square either (it was square with rounded off corners) fit them very well. Round .046" lead works fine too. 1.1mm lead does not always stay put in these pencils.

There were other lead diameters too made by WAHL/EVERSHARP: Thin leads = .039" 75 lead ,075" and checking leads. All are still available from pencil geeks and some collectors who once tried to corner the pencil lead market...now that was an exercise in diminimus returns let me tell ya.

I just bought one of these pencils and it has some lead still but I’d like to know how to replace the lead. I understand that the back end (opposite from the tip) pulls out and you can store extra lead in there, but where do I insert a new piece to be used?

You slide it straight in the business end, after twisting/turning the inner rod/pusher back.

Thanks. So what is the point of pulling the mechanism out? Just extra lead storage?

Also…You can tell how much lead remains in the writing end of the pencil by how far out you can pull the lead storage area.

Oh to have that translucent pink Prera! @migo984 has the Oeste series named after birds. There is a pink one, so I’m assuming Este is the same pen as Oeste.    Excellent haul. I have some Uniball One P pens. Do you like to use them? I like them enough, but don’t use them too much yet.    Do you or your wife use Travelers Notebooks? Seeing you were at Kyoto, I thought of them as there is a store there.

It's not nearly so thick that I feel it comprises my fine-grained control, the way I feel about the Cross Peerless 125 or some of the high-end TACCIA Urushi pens with cigar-shaped bodies and 18K gold nibs. Why would you expect me or anyone else to make explicit mention of it, if it isn't a travesty or such a disappointment that an owner of the pen would want to bring it to the attention of his/her peers so that they could “learn from his/her mistake” without paying the price?

Why nobody says that the section of Tuzu besides triangular shape is quite thick. Honestly it’s the thickest one among my many pens, other thick I own is Noodler’s Ahab. Because of that fat section I feel more control and my handwriting has improved. I can’t say it’s comfortable or uncomfortable, but needs a moment to accommodate. It’s funny because my school years are long over. Besides this pen had horrible F nib. Tines were perfectly aligned but it was so scratchy on left stroke that collecte

Awesome! I'm in the process of preparing my bag for our pen meet this weekend and I literally have none of the items you mention!! I'll see if I can find one or two!

@asota -- Yeah, I think I have a few rolls in my fridge that are probably 20-30 years old at this point (don't remember now if they are B&W or color film) and don't even really know where to get the film processed, once the drive through kiosks went away....  I just did a quick Google search and (in theory) there was a place the next town over from me -- but got a 404 error message when I tried to click on the link....  Ruth Morrisson aka inkstainedruth
