In Need Of 4X6 Fp Friendly, Plain Or Dotted Line Notebook

I need these for a small Franklin-Christoph notebook cover. I want them to be cheap because the stuff I will write on this notebooks are going to be primarily (1) "TO DO" lists (2) my blood sugar readings or (3) my blood pressure readings; things that don't merit the notebook to be fancy or expesive, but definitely FP friendly.

It am actually using a lined pages 4x6 VERY OLD notebook that was partially used in 2005 the last time, and looks like a MUJI notebook but doesn't say it anywhere. Ink doesn't bleed through or feather; It has a colored spine band, is FP friendly, and has a band that goes vertically to close the notebook. This band is not necessary since it is well guarded and closed by the F/C leather cover but I am in need of a new, fresh notebook that fits the requirements. I would prefer it to have dotted pages for occassional doodles.

I have made my research in the most used e-stores and came up with 2 notebooks that could fit. One has only 36 sheets and the other 72 sheets and is graphed paper. Of course, I would prefer 72 sheets instead of 36 for convenience. The 36 pages notebook does not say FP friendly on it specs while the 72 pages says it. It remains to be seen whether it is so. Suggestions are welcomed. Th eupper limit for the notebook is $4.00. I think the 72 pages notebook would fare well but don't want to order many in case I don't like them, so I would like feedback on notebooks of this kind before I order some. Please do not include notebooks if they are over $4.\

Thank you so much. That's the 72 sheets notebook I was writing about. That is the only one I have found that more or less fits the cover without being expensive and having enough pages to keep it in the cover for a long time. I like when pages get used and the notebooks inflate giving signs they have been used and have old data that we can use.

I wonder if you have used it and tested it with fountain pen inks.

You're welcome.Yes, I use them with the fountain pens, but none of my fountain pens are extremely wet writers, the widest nib I use is a medium. I forgot about this one, it is another one that I have used before ... it is wire bound with dotted line, 6 mm rule, it is also fountain pen friendly. The only thing I don't really like about it is that all the pages are perforated. Though it might not work too well with the leather cover, you might consider using it as is.

Thanks, It would work perfectly. The one I have now is 4.5 X 6 and this is 0.2 and 0.4 less in dimensions. The only problem being is the rings that would add some volume, but since it has 50 pages I think it will fit. The leather cover is roomy inside, that is something that is well done on this notebook jacket of F-C. Right now I have the 4.5 X 6 notebook on the right pocket plus a booklet on the left side for reading when I have the occassion.

I had not considered this one because I needed feedback from someone who had used it. Both are worth trying. My pens are usually F and EF or I use stubs that are are stingy with inks. I was using a Custom Heritage but was too wet for my taste on a small notebook - taking too much space to write a thing - so I changed to a F Pilot 78G and a bold 78G (dry writer) and they work well on this setting. If I get the perfect notebook I want, I will change to a Namiki Falcon EF that is very fine and dry writer.

Thanks a lot for the feedback! I will wait one more day to see if there are additional suggestions and will ordera few of both notebooks to see. How they go.

Richila, I found them with lines, will try one first. Same with the ones suggested by wc lee, will try the three styles. Thank you both of you. Not many cheap choices out there but Ii hope any of these will do.

I think you will be happy with the paper weight. I use the grid because I am trying to become more consistent with my spacing when writing.

I will have the notebook tomorrow and will immediately try it. One must be aware that some sellers specify "pages" and others specify "sheets"

  • 192 lightly-ruled pages = 96 sheets

This is the most I have seen on that size. For $5, that's a bargain. I am waiting to see how it fits on the cover to order more.

This is the Peter Pauper Press Essentials Grid notebook:

The paper passed the test with my broad wet nibs... which I will not use on the notebook. Unless I decide to use it to practice my stub "style writing" . There is no feathering and the inks that do shade nicely. The notebook's paper is great for using my wider nibs, which I don't find often as good as this.

The see through is not horrible with these extreme nibs. 3rd and 4th lines were written in the back with a black ink, fine nibbed pen; doesn't. Show any bleed through and is th ekind of pen I will bbe using with this notebook. It is actually and EF TWSBI ECO.

Fine and normal nibs like the top Conklin stub (1.1mm?) and a TWSBI ECO 1.1mm , F, EF may do VERY well on this notebook.

And the notebook I am using now is something like this, which I bought at Target in 2010. I always date the notebooks. It had only 15 pages written on.

Pretty cool but haven't seen them anymore... They were probably bought at Marshall's, anyhow. Perfect size for the F-C cover; neat.

Now I am waiting for two of the KoKuyo notebooks that I will be trying against these two!

I am glad you like the paper. It is my favorite portable notebook. Does it fit your case?

It fits perfectly and I am planning. On getting more-- I usually overstock myself. Many Thanks!

  • 1 month later...

I bought a Pentalic Traveler Pocket Journal Sketch recently. 160 pages, 74 lb (120 gsm) of recycled slightly toothy unlined white paper (their description). Seems to be FP friendly, although still testing. Quite reasonable at $7-8 for a 4x6. It's about 5/8" thick. They also have lined and grid versions.

I'm trying out a Baron Fig Confidant - the size is right, the build quality is excellent and the paper is some of the best I've used:

Thick with a slight tooth, no bleed-through or feathering. Great paper.

Oh to have that translucent pink Prera! @migo984 has the Oeste series named after birds. There is a pink one, so I’m assuming Este is the same pen as Oeste.    Excellent haul. I have some Uniball One P pens. Do you like to use them? I like them enough, but don’t use them too much yet.    Do you or your wife use Travelers Notebooks? Seeing you were at Kyoto, I thought of them as there is a store there.

It's not nearly so thick that I feel it comprises my fine-grained control, the way I feel about the Cross Peerless 125 or some of the high-end TACCIA Urushi pens with cigar-shaped bodies and 18K gold nibs. Why would you expect me or anyone else to make explicit mention of it, if it isn't a travesty or such a disappointment that an owner of the pen would want to bring it to the attention of his/her peers so that they could “learn from his/her mistake” without paying the price?

Why nobody says that the section of Tuzu besides triangular shape is quite thick. Honestly it’s the thickest one among my many pens, other thick I own is Noodler’s Ahab. Because of that fat section I feel more control and my handwriting has improved. I can’t say it’s comfortable or uncomfortable, but needs a moment to accommodate. It’s funny because my school years are long over. Besides this pen had horrible F nib. Tines were perfectly aligned but it was so scratchy on left stroke that collecte

Awesome! I'm in the process of preparing my bag for our pen meet this weekend and I literally have none of the items you mention!! I'll see if I can find one or two!

@asota -- Yeah, I think I have a few rolls in my fridge that are probably 20-30 years old at this point (don't remember now if they are B&W or color film) and don't even really know where to get the film processed, once the drive through kiosks went away....  I just did a quick Google search and (in theory) there was a place the next town over from me -- but got a 404 error message when I tried to click on the link....  Ruth Morrisson aka inkstainedruth
