J. Herbin 1670 Stormy Grey

I knew about the glitter, but not the sheen! May have to try this one out sometime. I have the other 1670 inks. EOC is my favorite of the bunch. The red sheen does it for me, and I use a paper for my journaling that lets me see it. It's fantastic.

This ink has shimmer and can produce a slight sheen thanks to the interaction of the ink and the gold flecks. Usually you'll get either a dark black or a light grey and some sparkle, but sometimes it'll have a nice glossy appearance. Discovered this rare feat on tomoe river paper, but I'd count on a grey with sparkling gold or none at all. it's a very tempermental ink.

Wonderful review. I love grey inks, and will definitely put this one on my wish list. Seems like a nice ink to write invitations, birthday cards, etc... (I will need to practice writing with a 1.5 or 1.9mm calligraphy nib first

I'll try to do some writing on Tomoe River and take pictures to upload shortly. Trying to find out for sure if my new Lmay is a fake. lots of stuff doesn't add up but some stuff does look right.

Thanks for the further information!

Yes I totally agree with the shimmer/luster part----it is always ALL or NONE.... so I already gave up trying to control or predict it and just let the outcome surprise me every time. B)

And the bottle.... I was too amazed by the exquisite design that I failed to notice how inconvenient that narrow rim was.

Now I prefer more practical bottles such as that of Sailor Jentle Inks and Private Reserve.

My suggestion is to buy one of Goulets empty bottles on sale and once all the ink is out of it and it's cleaned, use it for filling. If you like purple, you could just buy Levenger Amethyst ink from Amazon for $6 delivered. it has the plastic cone inside for easy filling of pens, is fairly resistant to tipping, and is a beautiful clear bottle. Another good option is to use a wide necked crafting bottle and a cork but not as secure or portable. Anyway, glad the information could be of some help. I did find you get much more consistant shimmer if you use a good wet pen, and are sure to swirl the pen or shake it to get the shimmer to agitate into immulsion. if you have a good pen that writes wet but doesn't drip or splatter the inside of it's cap, just shaking the pen up and down like when you'd drum the eraser of a pencil on the desk can really help. If you're using a eyedropper pen, ceat and add one of those little plastix beads shaped like a WWII Beach spike or even a cheap bb or Airsoft pellet to the inside to help keep the shimmer in immulsion. just make sure whatever you use is substantially smaller than the pen body and NOT lead or something that will break down in the ink or release particles to jam the feed.

Of the 4 inks in the 1670 collection stormy grey is my absolute favorite. I love this ink!!

A close second is rouge hematite, then ocean blue, and lastly eoc.

Its a great ink with and without the sparkle

Well, I'm very surprised to hear(read) this.

I don't have RH myself, but so far I always hear people saying either RH or EoC being their favorite.

My I ask why you find EoC the least favorable? (just curious....)

Thanks! This is A LOT of information.... this deserves an independent thread itself!

Oh to have that translucent pink Prera! @migo984 has the Oeste series named after birds. There is a pink one, so I’m assuming Este is the same pen as Oeste.    Excellent haul. I have some Uniball One P pens. Do you like to use them? I like them enough, but don’t use them too much yet.    Do you or your wife use Travelers Notebooks? Seeing you were at Kyoto, I thought of them as there is a store there.

It's not nearly so thick that I feel it comprises my fine-grained control, the way I feel about the Cross Peerless 125 or some of the high-end TACCIA Urushi pens with cigar-shaped bodies and 18K gold nibs. Why would you expect me or anyone else to make explicit mention of it, if it isn't a travesty or such a disappointment that an owner of the pen would want to bring it to the attention of his/her peers so that they could “learn from his/her mistake” without paying the price?

Why nobody says that the section of Tuzu besides triangular shape is quite thick. Honestly it’s the thickest one among my many pens, other thick I own is Noodler’s Ahab. Because of that fat section I feel more control and my handwriting has improved. I can’t say it’s comfortable or uncomfortable, but needs a moment to accommodate. It’s funny because my school years are long over. Besides this pen had horrible F nib. Tines were perfectly aligned but it was so scratchy on left stroke that collecte

Awesome! I'm in the process of preparing my bag for our pen meet this weekend and I literally have none of the items you mention!! I'll see if I can find one or two!

@asota -- Yeah, I think I have a few rolls in my fridge that are probably 20-30 years old at this point (don't remember now if they are B&W or color film) and don't even really know where to get the film processed, once the drive through kiosks went away....  I just did a quick Google search and (in theory) there was a place the next town over from me -- but got a 404 error message when I tried to click on the link....  Ruth Morrisson aka inkstainedruth
