Any Pens Out There With Knurled Sections?

I actually stumbled across the Gist pen last night--very exciting! I may have to preorder a polycarbonate pen with the copper section and finial.... Now if only they offered black nibs... do you happen to know if they'll take a Monteverde nib?

Polycarbonate & copper is one of the combinations I went for. I love the way that copper ages like an old coin after only a few days of use. Copper is also slightly tacky, so should aid in gripping the pen compared to some other metals. The other I chose is an all-titanium, with a zirconium section to swap in. I haven't used zirconium before. It looks a bit slicker if the photos are anything to go by, but I expect that the ribbing will make it grippy enough for me.

I believe they use a Bock 250 (#6 equivalent) nib unit. I think the odds are good that a Monteverde #6 nib will fit the Bock collar & feed without modification.

The closest thing Tactile Turn has to a black nib is the Titanium nib

Those who hurt me were not only someone else,

but also those who pretended not to notice. It was my friend.

Damn. I couldn't chose between the Levenger and the Gist, so I ordered both. And to think this thread started out as some simple curiosity....

  • 4 weeks later...

While not metal and not knurled, I always liked the ribbed sections on Sheaffer snorkels and TD pens.

Looking for a cap for a Sheaffer Touchdown Sentinel Deluxe Fat version

Dang... I came to talk about my experience with the Leavenger L-Tech (I'm a fan-- I know I said the line is too bold, but I'm quickly getting used to it...), but I may end up ordering a bronze or brass Gist. Wowza!

I have a Rotring from the early '90s that has a knurled section that feels pretty comfortable to write with.

The rest of the pen balances a little funny: very heavy, long and narrow but the section is nice.

It feels rather like a drafting pencil.

Yo Lamy Studio + Sand paper = Boom

Used to never use the Studio because of it's chrome section, but now it's an every day carry.

Of course this modification doesn't make the section knurled but it serves the point of giving it a satisfactory grip.

Oh to have that translucent pink Prera! @migo984 has the Oeste series named after birds. There is a pink one, so I’m assuming Este is the same pen as Oeste.    Excellent haul. I have some Uniball One P pens. Do you like to use them? I like them enough, but don’t use them too much yet.    Do you or your wife use Travelers Notebooks? Seeing you were at Kyoto, I thought of them as there is a store there.

It's not nearly so thick that I feel it comprises my fine-grained control, the way I feel about the Cross Peerless 125 or some of the high-end TACCIA Urushi pens with cigar-shaped bodies and 18K gold nibs. Why would you expect me or anyone else to make explicit mention of it, if it isn't a travesty or such a disappointment that an owner of the pen would want to bring it to the attention of his/her peers so that they could “learn from his/her mistake” without paying the price?

Why nobody says that the section of Tuzu besides triangular shape is quite thick. Honestly it’s the thickest one among my many pens, other thick I own is Noodler’s Ahab. Because of that fat section I feel more control and my handwriting has improved. I can’t say it’s comfortable or uncomfortable, but needs a moment to accommodate. It’s funny because my school years are long over. Besides this pen had horrible F nib. Tines were perfectly aligned but it was so scratchy on left stroke that collecte

Awesome! I'm in the process of preparing my bag for our pen meet this weekend and I literally have none of the items you mention!! I'll see if I can find one or two!

@asota -- Yeah, I think I have a few rolls in my fridge that are probably 20-30 years old at this point (don't remember now if they are B&W or color film) and don't even really know where to get the film processed, once the drive through kiosks went away....  I just did a quick Google search and (in theory) there was a place the next town over from me -- but got a 404 error message when I tried to click on the link....  Ruth Morrisson aka inkstainedruth
