Holiday Card Address - Which Ink

With much forethought and only 30 ink samples to choose from, Nathan's pride - Heart of Darkness - delivered by Pilot Kakuno JF - did the addressing duties on cheap greeting card envelopes so that the weather wouldn't give USPS more reason to delay delivery.

Fine, smooth nib - Black of Black (HoD) and economy paper. ..^.. Happy Holidays all!

Sometimes I think I can taste the colors of the ink through my eyes. That Emerald.....

Rohrer & Klingner got to do the honors for me this year; salix for the addresses, and scabiosa for the enclosed letters. i found quite good cards, but the envelopes that came with them weren't so great --- the addresses all feathered something awful.

I'll be going with Sheaffer (50's vintage) Red and Diamine Delamere Green for my cards this year.

Addressing will probably be MB Permanent Black.

Happy Holidays!

Our Christmas Cards were hand made with a very nice photo on the front of three men on camels with the words "Wise Men still follow HIM". Inside we placed a photo of ourselves, and "Wishing each of you a very Merry Christmas and a wonderful holiday season", then signed by my husband in the gorgeous green of L'Artisan Pastelier Callifolio Teodora, and I signed in a lovely burgundy of L'Artisan Pastelier Callifolio Grenat. Personal notes were added by each of us. Both of these inks have wonderful shading and sheen that showed very well on the card stock. Because we had so many to send out, we printed the addresses on the envelopes using a laser printer.

The H. P. Lovecraft holiday cards I got from a recent Kickstarter were made with a really fountain-pen-friendly cardstock, so I've been using Lamy Turquoise in my Lamy Safari with a 1.1mm stub. The shading is stunning, and it even dries relatively quickly. I'm quite pleased.

For the envelopes, Sheaffer blue-black, which isn't armor-plated like Noodler's but has a bit of water resistance.

I use Nooder's Gruene Cactus, then rub parafin over the address, to protect the ink from moisture.

I do not send a lot of Christmas cards, about 6 or 7, but all were done with Pelikan 4001 Blue Black this year. I had thought of doing the envelopes with 4001 Blue Black and Edelstein topaz for the cards themselves but in the end I did all of them with my favourite M800 and Blue Black.

Last year I did the cards with Pelikan 4001 Black and the envelopes with Scribtol and a dip pen. But I decided black was too serious for the task (even though I like writing with black). Blue Black adds a note of formality and distance to a blue or turquise and is less sober and serious looking than black. It is this versatiliy I appreciate in it that has come to put other colours aside as secondary inks.

I signed our cards with Diamine Red Lustre (Parker Vector fine italic stub), and addressed them with Susemai mixed green (Levenger Truewriter).

After much debate I wrote my cards in Diamine Syrah. A very deep red, sophisticated yet festive. Seems to have been a hit, so will probably stay with it next year.

I am afraid the addresses are printed labels - quick and the postman can read them!

Black Eel for the envelopes addresses and Emerald of Chivor did the honors for the cards - with the wettest broadest nib I own!
