Oh, and for anyone that cares, but hasn't found the info elsewhere, the Vac Mini holds about 2 ml of ink according to the Goulet website.

I was fortunate enough to visit a shop in Hong Kong last year that sold TWSBIs - and one look a the Vac 700 told me it was going to be too big for me, so I passed up the opportunity to buy one (I bought a blue NOS 540 instead), and decided to wait for a Vac Mini. So pleased to have one now on the way - though I don't think it'll get here before Christmas...

..I just received my 2nd one. That one goes into the vault for storage until such time that the 1st no longer functions ;)

The nib and feed can be pulled from the collar and re-inserted to line up per your preference...at least it can on my Diamond Mini and they use the same nib and feed (and very similar collars), so I would assume this will work...use common sense though.

... I would never have thought of this. So simple! Thanks!

Thanks for this advice, but I don't think this will work on mine. I'm not familiar with the Diamond Mini so I don't know if the Vac Mini is the same, but there isn't much play on anything on the Vac Mini body:

  • The nib and feed seem to only go into the black plastic feed-holder one way, like the Vac 700.
  • That black plastic feed-holder screws into the section at the base, so the direction can't change based on the metal collar.
  • The section screws into the body.

So I think I would have to try realigning the clip on the cap. I have been able to remove the smoked-plastic inner cap easily.

But, I see that the finial and clip are actually bolted on with a small hex nut, rather than screwed in with a philips-head screw. Does anyone have an idea what tool I could use to get at it? Thanks!

Thanks for the info - let me know how it goes! I might just have to pick one up too.

A fun review, well worth watching - my pen is already on the way from Singapore, but this has inspired me to order a Vac 20A bottle, sometime...

Well, I got a 1.5mm stub Mini nib unit for Christmas. I just placed an order for a Vac Mini and two Vac 20A bottles.

Current Daily Carry: Pilot Custom 743 with 14k Posting nib (Sailor Kiwa-Guro), Sailor 1911L Realo Champagne with 21k Extra Fine nib (Sailor Tokiwa-Matsu). Platinum Century 3776 Bourgogne (Diamine Syrah), Nakaya Portable Writer Midori with 14k Extra Extra Fine nib (Lamy Peridot), Pilot Vanishing Point Stealth Black with Extra Fine nib unit (Pilot Blue Black), a dozen Nockco DotDash index cards of various sizes and a Traveler's Notebook.

..not well. Trying to find a 5mm nut driver at all the big box stores is like searching for a needle in a haystack. It's just too small to be sold separately, and bought in a set is almost double the price.

Ended up ordering from Amazon and getting it shipped.

Stay tuned.. should have it before Thursday.

Well, as it turns out, I happened to have a 5mm nut driver in an iFixit kit I had purchased from Fry's earlier this year, so.. now I have an extra 5mm coming in the mail now lol

..I tried it out, and yes - indeed, this is the correct size.

Although I was able to dismantle the cap and readjust the pressure on the nut, it did not stop the clip from swaying from side-to-side as I thought was being caused by the loose fastener.

After examining my clear Mini, I found that one to be a little loose too - but not as much. This must be just how this particular model's clip is.

One little heads up.. you'll need something to loosen the inner ink cap out from the main cap - since mine was a black cap, it didn't matter much if it was a little scratched so I just used one side of a pair of scissors to get a little grip and it slid out quite easy. I suspect an eraser tip may work too.

Cheers!

Thanks! Looks like I will be in the market for a 5mm nut driver too then! My clip is also a bit loose, but I'm much more eager to get the clip to align with the nib when posted. I did notice that about the inner cap and have been using the tail end of my Pilot Metropolitan to prize it out.

Hmm, I guess the collar or the feeds might be different between the pens then. On the Diamond Mini Classic, I can pull the nib and feed and rotate them any direction and reinsert into the collar any which way I please. Its just a simple friction fit. Now, the collar itself will only go into the grip section piece a limited number of ways because of the grooves...you have to tighten the collar into the pen using the grip section, so it makes sense for it to have a secure hold on the collar...luckily my clip lines up with the nib already, so I've not messed with aligning it.

Finally got my Vac Mini today, it is what I expected and then some! The F nib is very smooth, I am loathe to mess with it but I want to try a vintage gold nib in it...obligatory pictures below!

I've had this pen for several weeks and have written about a dozen pages with it.

I've used Clairefontaine, black n red, and cheapo Mead using Black Noodlers ink.

This is a wet writer. It does occasionally run dry, and loosening then popping the rod feeder thingy seems to free up the ink. It makes an audible pop, same thing as my Mini.

Maybe twsbi pens want of a bit of love and attention, huh?

The ink capacity is huge! It takes me about two days to go through the mini, but the Vac mini guy takes more than four. It is more wet on laying down its ink.

Be mindful of the cross threading problem. It occurs very easily.

The material, the plastic, feels different. Looks the same but is much grippier.

I would say the Vac Mini is smoother to write with, but to me either pen is great to own and to write with. Personally I find the occasional ink lock-up irritating yet endearing.

However, my preference goes to the Vac because of its unusual Vac operation. It feels neat, fun, quick, and makes an audible pop when filling.

The pen is noticeably heavier when filled--something I have never experienced nor even though of until this pen.

I've added a Vac Mini to the two Minis and Eco I have. The Eco is too large for me but the Minis and Vac Mini are just fine. I've had only minor problems with one Mini and they were quickly resolved. Can someone please tell me how to fully fill the Vac Mini? I can readily fill it about to about 75% of capacity but can't accomplish more. Three-quarters full is certainly adequate but I'm curious whether it's possible to fill it almost completely.Thanks.

You could fill to max with an ink syringe, or buy one of the new Vac20 inkwells from TWSBI.

Oh to have that translucent pink Prera! @migo984 has the Oeste series named after birds. There is a pink one, so I’m assuming Este is the same pen as Oeste.    Excellent haul. I have some Uniball One P pens. Do you like to use them? I like them enough, but don’t use them too much yet.    Do you or your wife use Travelers Notebooks? Seeing you were at Kyoto, I thought of them as there is a store there.

It's not nearly so thick that I feel it comprises my fine-grained control, the way I feel about the Cross Peerless 125 or some of the high-end TACCIA Urushi pens with cigar-shaped bodies and 18K gold nibs. Why would you expect me or anyone else to make explicit mention of it, if it isn't a travesty or such a disappointment that an owner of the pen would want to bring it to the attention of his/her peers so that they could “learn from his/her mistake” without paying the price?

Why nobody says that the section of Tuzu besides triangular shape is quite thick. Honestly it’s the thickest one among my many pens, other thick I own is Noodler’s Ahab. Because of that fat section I feel more control and my handwriting has improved. I can’t say it’s comfortable or uncomfortable, but needs a moment to accommodate. It’s funny because my school years are long over. Besides this pen had horrible F nib. Tines were perfectly aligned but it was so scratchy on left stroke that collecte

Awesome! I'm in the process of preparing my bag for our pen meet this weekend and I literally have none of the items you mention!! I'll see if I can find one or two!

@asota -- Yeah, I think I have a few rolls in my fridge that are probably 20-30 years old at this point (don't remember now if they are B&W or color film) and don't even really know where to get the film processed, once the drive through kiosks went away....  I just did a quick Google search and (in theory) there was a place the next town over from me -- but got a 404 error message when I tried to click on the link....  Ruth Morrisson aka inkstainedruth
