Neither. They're smaller than 5s. I guess you could call them a 4, though they don't have an official number.

I think you'd still call them a #5, because (as far as I can tell) they wrap around a feed that's ~5mm in diameter - but they have a narrower wing-span than the #5 nib that's designed for the TWSBI Diamond 580. It's the same smallish nib that's used on the TWSBI Diamond Mini, the Classic (I believe) and the Eco.

Vac Mini, TWSBI Mini, TWSBI 580, and TWSBI Eco all use the modern #5 nib size. (I don't know about TWSBI Classic as I don't own a Classic.) The shape of the nibs on 580 and others are different in that 580 uses wider shoulder on the nib, but the nib size (as in the diameter of the feed the nib fits onto) is all the same, and it's size #5 in the Jowo and Bock size.

Could you take some measurements of the new Vac Mini specs and post them? I would like to know the diameter of the grip section, in particular. Goulet is not listing these specs yet.

Mine just arrived today; I find it's the perfect size for my smaller hands, and my particular one has better flow than a few of my pricier pens. Also I really like the crystal-like faceting on the cap and barrel.

 

Two possibly silly questions:

 

1) How far should I be unscrewing the blind cap? As I understand it there's a detent on the 700, but I can't feel any such thing on my Mini.

 

2) When I post the cap, the clip doesn't line up with the nib (it's about 90 degrees off either direction). Is there a safe way to rotate either the cap or nib assembly?

The nib and feed can be pulled from the collar and re-inserted to line up per your preference...at least it can on my Diamond Mini and they use the same nib and feed (and very similar collars), so I would assume this will work...use common sense though.
