Bungubox Inks: Only Small Nibs Need Apply?

Remedial penmanship

Recommended Posts

I bought two Bungubox inks, my first. 4B and Ink of the Witch, if you must know. The IotW is nearly a purple-black, darker than Diamine Pansy, but still in a violet lane, unlike Montblanc Lavender, which I found a bit purple-burgundy.

An entirely technical question: on following Bungubox directions (inverting the bottle) and getting ink into its internal basket, I can't submerge a Montblanc 149 nib any more than about 2/3, not nearly reaching the section. I'm able to aspirate a bit of ink with the piston but perhaps only half the capacity, since I think it's also aspirating air.

Are my options 1) use a smaller nib, 2) transfer the ink to a deeper bottle, 3) use a C/C or ED filler? Many thanks!

Remove the little basket and practice some convoluted gymnastics to get the round bottle on its side to submerge the MB149 nib.

As a beginner... I will suggest another set of hands to help. ;)

Oh god. Those infernal Sailor Jentle ink bottles strike again. Loathsome things.

Yes, as others have said, discard the useless basket asap. Then buy one of these (or tilt the bottle against some stacked papers or magazines).

Or better yet, decant it into something decent (or wait for a new supply of the original 'diamond' bottles)...

Too many pens; too little writing.

Exactly. Now, if only someone had a supply of empty Akkerman bottles —best design for fountain pen refilling that I can think of!

^i sometime have some problems with Akkerman bottles. The nib touches the glass ball. I have 60ml bottle.

Quel dommage !!!... I have the 150ml bottles.. no issues.. ;)

Or, send the IoftW to me - I love it - well actually, I love both of the inks you bought and I have them too. I'd suggest decanting it into a smaller widemouthed vial. That way you can't contaminate the ink. 4B does not stain, though I don't know if IoftW does so watch out on the MB149. I hope you love these inks.

Fountain pens are my preferred COLOR DELIVERY SYSTEM (in part because crayons melt in Las Vegas).

Good idea. The Levenger bottles really are well designed.

The largest nib in my small collection of pens is a JoWo size # 6.

While I've had to remove the plastic filling thingy from my Sailor bottles to be able to draw up any ink with this nib, Akkerman bottles have posed no filling problems (I have both the 150 & the 60 ml sizes). There seems to be enough space in the bottle's ink chamber to safely fill with my larger nib.

When you invert the Akkerman bottle to fill the ink chamber, wait a while before you slowly turn it upright. The chamber is usually filled close to its rim (if the marble has a good seal).

I have thought about the possibility of a larger nib touching the glass ball. Hasn't happened yet.

I've had one 150 ml. bottle that had a wonky neck (like the leaning tower of Pisa). An overall intriguing shape,...but the glass ball in this bottle did seal as well & allowed ink to drain back into the main chamber.

Miss those big 150 ml bottles :crybaby:

I think it was Brian Goulet or SBREBrown that used a blunt needle syringe to fill a piston filler, you fill the syringe to 2-3ml and saturate the feed and suck up the ink, takes a while but you can get it filled like that.

It seems like a better idea to get 20ml tall bottle or a waterman bottle that can be tilted, or the visconti traveler inkpot.

I think I will take the suggestion made in the thread about Akkerman bottles. I'll invert them and let them stay like that for a while. I used to keep them inverted for a few seconds only. :)

Oh to have that translucent pink Prera! @migo984 has the Oeste series named after birds. There is a pink one, so I’m assuming Este is the same pen as Oeste.    Excellent haul. I have some Uniball One P pens. Do you like to use them? I like them enough, but don’t use them too much yet.    Do you or your wife use Travelers Notebooks? Seeing you were at Kyoto, I thought of them as there is a store there.

It's not nearly so thick that I feel it comprises my fine-grained control, the way I feel about the Cross Peerless 125 or some of the high-end TACCIA Urushi pens with cigar-shaped bodies and 18K gold nibs. Why would you expect me or anyone else to make explicit mention of it, if it isn't a travesty or such a disappointment that an owner of the pen would want to bring it to the attention of his/her peers so that they could “learn from his/her mistake” without paying the price?

Why nobody says that the section of Tuzu besides triangular shape is quite thick. Honestly it’s the thickest one among my many pens, other thick I own is Noodler’s Ahab. Because of that fat section I feel more control and my handwriting has improved. I can’t say it’s comfortable or uncomfortable, but needs a moment to accommodate. It’s funny because my school years are long over. Besides this pen had horrible F nib. Tines were perfectly aligned but it was so scratchy on left stroke that collecte

Awesome! I'm in the process of preparing my bag for our pen meet this weekend and I literally have none of the items you mention!! I'll see if I can find one or two!

@asota -- Yeah, I think I have a few rolls in my fridge that are probably 20-30 years old at this point (don't remember now if they are B&W or color film) and don't even really know where to get the film processed, once the drive through kiosks went away....  I just did a quick Google search and (in theory) there was a place the next town over from me -- but got a 404 error message when I tried to click on the link....  Ruth Morrisson aka inkstainedruth
