What Was Your Last Impulsive Pen Acquisition?

Pilot Knight, as I bought it but I've not had the time to fill\clean any pens lately.

“Many boys will bring you flowers. But someday you'll meet a boy who will learn your favorite flower, your favorite song, your favorite sweet. And even if he is too poor to give you any of them, it won't matter because he will have taken the time to know you as no one else does. Only that boy earns your heart."

Very nice. I liked the look of those but they were too pricy for me when they first came out (plus a little on the heavy side for me at the time). And nowadays? They're not $1500 US worth of nice. :(

I got a waterman carene deluxe F for $120.

And I instantly loved it so much I got another (used) black sea silver with an M nib for $85.

the M nib is very stubbish and the two I tried at a store were hot buttered glass, can't wait for that one.

The most expensive pen that I have ever bought without holding it in my hand first. I saw it online and it made me catch my breath for a moment. It's a Marlen, identified only as "art deco." The body is sterling silver with an abstract and brightly colored lacquer pattern on it that reminds me of a stained glass window (and which does not look particularly art deco to me). It arrived a couple of days ago and I can't keep my eyes off of it nor keep it out of my hands. It's fairly heavy at over 49 grams (with ink) but that doesn't seem to bother me for longer writing sessions. Not quite incidentally, it has a very nice 18K medium nib that writes well, although I am thinking that I may want to have it tuned or ground or something so that it will be as exquisite to me as the outside.

I have not, up to now, been interested in buying modern pens where the primary consideration is their appearance; I hope, for my wallet's sake, that this event will remain a rare exception.

Yeah, Addertooth is right. The rule around here is "Pix or it didn't happen...." ;)

Let's just say I am going to have to be careful I don't get banned by one retailer for buying and canceling or returning orders. Their constant 10% and 15% coupons have been evil for my impulse buying.

The most recent pen is one I have wanted for months and couldn't resist at the price and coupon code being offered. But it's currently on its way back unopened -- because even at the good price, it was too much $$ to spend on impulse at Christmastime. :(

i'm afraid the majority of my acquisitions are impulse buys. But my most recent impulse was a Pilot Kakuno! It's a demonstrator with a purple top.

Purple is my favorite color so I have a special weakness for it!

Paul-in-SF,

It borders on sinful to describe your pen, but post no picture of it.

OK, OK, sorry. i was only afraid that my limited photo abilities would not do the pen justice.

The pinkish object you see partially cropped out of two of the photos is a pencil eraser, which I was using to keep the pen or the cap from rolling over, so that the clip would remain visible.

Sheaffer VFM - $1.92 at Office Depot

I was able to stop by a couple of office supply stores today to check for after-Christmas fountain pen deals. This was the last fountain pen on the clearance rack. The blister pack was marked $5, but the tag above it said $1.92 and it rang up at that price.

I also bought my wife a 12 pack of assorted color Sharpie pens.

I love that thing. it's gaudy and glorious.

Recently ordered a PenBBS 309 from Etsy after reading about it in an online review.

The Lamy 2000 from endlesspens.com during thier holiday sale. It was too good of a deal to pass up. I've wanted one for quite a long time.

To clear my head from Christmas nausea I ordered a Nagasawa (Sailor) Pro Gear Slim Mini in Back with an EF nib on eBay. It will cost me ca. 120 Euro without or 145 Euro with customs, I'll see. I have wanted one of these cuties for a while now ;-)

Bit the bullet and ordered a steel Lamy 2000. The Makrolon version has been a long time favorite but I’m hoping for the same writing experience with a more substantial feel. Not crazy about losing the ink window, but I’ll figure out when I’m empty organically :)

Oh to have that translucent pink Prera! @migo984 has the Oeste series named after birds. There is a pink one, so I’m assuming Este is the same pen as Oeste.    Excellent haul. I have some Uniball One P pens. Do you like to use them? I like them enough, but don’t use them too much yet.    Do you or your wife use Travelers Notebooks? Seeing you were at Kyoto, I thought of them as there is a store there.

It's not nearly so thick that I feel it comprises my fine-grained control, the way I feel about the Cross Peerless 125 or some of the high-end TACCIA Urushi pens with cigar-shaped bodies and 18K gold nibs. Why would you expect me or anyone else to make explicit mention of it, if it isn't a travesty or such a disappointment that an owner of the pen would want to bring it to the attention of his/her peers so that they could “learn from his/her mistake” without paying the price?

Why nobody says that the section of Tuzu besides triangular shape is quite thick. Honestly it’s the thickest one among my many pens, other thick I own is Noodler’s Ahab. Because of that fat section I feel more control and my handwriting has improved. I can’t say it’s comfortable or uncomfortable, but needs a moment to accommodate. It’s funny because my school years are long over. Besides this pen had horrible F nib. Tines were perfectly aligned but it was so scratchy on left stroke that collecte

Awesome! I'm in the process of preparing my bag for our pen meet this weekend and I literally have none of the items you mention!! I'll see if I can find one or two!

@asota -- Yeah, I think I have a few rolls in my fridge that are probably 20-30 years old at this point (don't remember now if they are B&W or color film) and don't even really know where to get the film processed, once the drive through kiosks went away....  I just did a quick Google search and (in theory) there was a place the next town over from me -- but got a 404 error message when I tried to click on the link....  Ruth Morrisson aka inkstainedruth
