What Was Your Last Impulsive Pen Acquisition?

Apparently,  I'm not doing my share to uphold the pen market.  I've looked but haven't bought any pens since early August. Even then,  it was only an inexpensive Pelikano because I wanted try a fine nib once again.

Well, I was mistaken as to what is in my Kaweco Supra Eco-Brass pen. The exterior of the nib housing does not look like a (made-by-JoWo) Edison Pen Company, Fine Writing International, or Opus 88 (#12) nib unit; and the curvature of the underside of the feed is concave. On the other hand, the housing looks like that of a Bock 220 or 250 nib unit.

Now I am going to dig out my Supra and take a look at that nib again…😃

I sort of waffled on this, so maybe doesn't seem so impulsive, but it is three pens, all from the same vendor, in two purchases, simultaneously.  The first is a Lamy CP1 model 50 with 585 gold nib (obviously) and the second is two pens, the Lamy 27 and the Lamy Profil 81.  How this combined purchase is impulsive is that it's quite a bit more than I should have spent, but really wanted another original CP1 in a second nib size (my first model 50 is EF, this one is OB), and after picking up a Lamy Profil 86 OB steel, I wanted a gold-nib model from the Profil series.

I will be looking to acquire a cap jewel for the 27 as it's sold without. So... if you have such an item I'd be happy to chat:)

My last impulsive purchase was this set of cheap-o piston fillers with a variety of nib sizes... 0.5 mm to 2.9 mm ... 6 for $16. I was hoping to find something like the good ol' 3008 with stub nibs... I hope this is it.

Even if they are not great pens, they will help me figure out what size stub nibs I like without spending a fortune first. They could also be good for dipping and creating swatches, if the nicer pens are busy.

If I recall from other threads, you also like the Slimline Montblancs, which in my hand feel similar to the Liliputs. The Supra is definitely heavier and notably thicker in the hand.

Thanks, that is so, but I've discovered I have much clearance/tolerance for pen girth. So, the Supra is not to be discarded yet... I will have to go downtown to a B&M shop to try one and see how does it fit in the pocket with the other pens (I usually carry two Liliputs and two 5.6mm mechanical pencils, the former to write, the later to sketch, in a leather pouch).

If you are to be ephemeral, leave a good scent.

you must have amazing handwriting. I found the m to be a firehose, and closer to a B.

I find a stub nib does wonders for my handwriting. Here's the weird thing: my black M1000 F really does feel like it writes like a firehose, but the M1000 B stub feels more controlled. Go figure.

Love the looks of that nib. Can you provide a writing sample, please?

Here's a scribble. Sailor Haha on Tomoe River 52gm, A5 notebook. Not a 'proper' sample as didn't want to crosshatch, etc in a new notebook.... but you get the idea.

I made an impulse bid on an aerometric-filler Parker Duofold Senior. The seller was asking £40, I bid £30, and we settled on a rather appropriate £35.

A kaweco Perkeo Calligraphy set. Only looking in the pen section of a department store and saw the set at a quite good price, too much temptation.

Conklin endura ringtop. I bought it since it has a flex stub… turns out I like my stub nibs to be nails. Very pretty pen but I am not a fan of it. It’s not a full flex like my other Conklin but it definitely can flex.

Pelikan M205 clear demonstrator. I found that I had a 1.5mm steel nib unit going unused, and there was the M205 for a reasonable price; and so I argued with myself for a bit, and lost the argument, and, well, here we are.

BENU Euphoria Cookies and Cream Milkshake (M). Considering I am always using EF, excited to try this new nib size out!

Thank you for the photos. I also confirmed visually in my Supra that the nib is Bock.

I get into similar arguments myself, and often with the same result. 😃

I have read that Kaweco was Bock only, but then switched to Jowo. However, people also claim that Kaweco uses both Bock and Jowo nibs. I wrote Kaweco a while ago regarding this matte, but did not receive a response.

Yes, very noticeable difference. I live not far from Mr. Masuyama. I may ask to get my M grounded to at the minimum, a cursive italic. Want to try an actual italic, but worried that I won't like it.

I am waffling on the Pilot Vanishing Point once again. It has been my grails for quite some time now, and I just did celebrate a sorta milestone birthday, on Fountain Pen Day no less, maybe I should treat myself? Though a problem I am running into is that none of my preferred retailers have Medium nibs in stock...

Thoughts?

I love them.  I can play clickers/click to fidget.  You can always get a different nib  and later buy a separate M nib unit as one of the neat things about VPs is that  the nib units are completely interchangeable with any other VP or a Decimo.  They are one of my favorite pens to use.  Only downside is the current converter.

Oh to have that translucent pink Prera! @migo984 has the Oeste series named after birds. There is a pink one, so I’m assuming Este is the same pen as Oeste.    Excellent haul. I have some Uniball One P pens. Do you like to use them? I like them enough, but don’t use them too much yet.    Do you or your wife use Travelers Notebooks? Seeing you were at Kyoto, I thought of them as there is a store there.

It's not nearly so thick that I feel it comprises my fine-grained control, the way I feel about the Cross Peerless 125 or some of the high-end TACCIA Urushi pens with cigar-shaped bodies and 18K gold nibs. Why would you expect me or anyone else to make explicit mention of it, if it isn't a travesty or such a disappointment that an owner of the pen would want to bring it to the attention of his/her peers so that they could “learn from his/her mistake” without paying the price?

Why nobody says that the section of Tuzu besides triangular shape is quite thick. Honestly it’s the thickest one among my many pens, other thick I own is Noodler’s Ahab. Because of that fat section I feel more control and my handwriting has improved. I can’t say it’s comfortable or uncomfortable, but needs a moment to accommodate. It’s funny because my school years are long over. Besides this pen had horrible F nib. Tines were perfectly aligned but it was so scratchy on left stroke that collecte

Awesome! I'm in the process of preparing my bag for our pen meet this weekend and I literally have none of the items you mention!! I'll see if I can find one or two!

@asota -- Yeah, I think I have a few rolls in my fridge that are probably 20-30 years old at this point (don't remember now if they are B&W or color film) and don't even really know where to get the film processed, once the drive through kiosks went away....  I just did a quick Google search and (in theory) there was a place the next town over from me -- but got a 404 error message when I tried to click on the link....  Ruth Morrisson aka inkstainedruth
