What Was Your Last Impulsive Pen Acquisition?

Yes, it's a wonderful terrible thing!

When a part of your brain can instantly come up with a range of eminently-sensible and pressing reasons for a purchase, that’s how you know it’s a ‘guilty pleasure’ ;)

Sharon is right about almost any pens after a certain number being impulse purchases. Why else did I buy Platinum Preppy pens because they had floral designs on the barrel? If I had let a day pass, maybe I would not have bought them.

I bought a Karas Kustoms Apollo 11 pen after their recent email about having a limited number in stock. I managed to resist it the first time because I have the very cool Acme Studios Rocket Hero. But this time? Oh look a 50 with a V in it for the Saturn V rocket. I bought it.

When will the pen buying ever stop? I told myself after the custom Edison Beaumont arrives, try stopping. But I bought a rollerball pen the day the Beaumont arrived. As they say in Peanuts: Aaugh!

Hey! Maybe that’s why I bought the pens! Good nib choice.

About half an hour ago I ordered a matt gunmetal Faber-Castell Loom (F nib) from an ebay seller. It was a good price and I wanted another Faber-Castell F nib.

Lined paper makes a prison of the page.

I ordered this Aurora 88 Huangshan Mountain pen at 3am last night. Just loved the colours and I decided on an EF nib, which I don’t yet have on an Aurora, to help justify it to myself. I’m a weak man.

Last weekend, I bid on an Ancora “Fuoco” red demonstrator and lost. So I bought the same model pen from an online dealer. I understand that “fuoco” means fire in Italian.

The Compactor Solo, at the new Compactor concept store in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. (www.compactor.com.br)

Compactor is a brazilian pen brand that was initialy created in Germany.

In the 50's they started business in Brazil, with a huge fountain pen line.

In the 80's they launched the "Pluma" fountain pen line. At that time (untill ca. 2005) they were the LAMY representative in Brazil.

Nowadays they have the Compactor Solo (based on a Schneider model) and the Compactor Gold fountain pen.

Bought a replacement L2K nib to the one I smashed on my tile floor. Missing Pen on eBay is selling them for under 100 USD which I think is a fair price. (As I type this my wife is jotting a grocery list with a dollar store gel pen and I realize this nib is quite expensive outside of the perspective of our community)

Anyway, I was just going to share one nib between my two L2K's, but the price was right and now I can have two different sizes. I have the Makrolon and Steel version pens, but they were both medium nibs. The medium will still be my go-to, but the new nib I ordered is a BB. That'll give me some variety.

Montblanc Starwalker 2017 version with a Fine nib.

I did not need to buy another pen (yeah, yeah, yeah - we've all heard that before). But I got it for a good price and I have wanted one for a while.

This weekend, I bought a Parker 17 "Lady" model on ebay. I bought it because it was relatively cheap for a Parker I have never used. And for the Broad nib. I am not expecting the build quality of my P51, based on a reviews. But it looks like a fun, tiny pen.

It's coming from the UK, so I shall have to exercise patience.

A few days ago, I purchased a Pelikan M400, blue/black Broad. I have yet to use a Pelikan, and I only recently became obsessed with owning them. It's supposed to arrive tomorrow. I am pleased with the price, but I am considering returning it to the pen store unopened if I win the ebay item on which I am currently bidding, (I shan't tell you what it is until the auction ends, for fear you lot would join in the bidding. :P )

Just kidding. I also just bought a Parker Super 21 on ebay. It was already cheap, but I made an offer about 20% less after seeing on the guy's feedback that he has a history of accepting offers. :happyberet:

A Montblanc 220p with an EF nib. I've yet to own a vintage pen or a Montblanc, so I'm killing two birds with one stone on this one (although I recognize that the 1970s is stretching it for the term vintage).

Is that the PenBBS 469? I just looked at Goldspot's website; they're kinda neat looking, but are you going to have problems with ink leaking into the nibs/caps when both sides are inked up but you're not using the pen (or are you going to store it flat)?

Ruth Morrisson aka inkstainedruth

Ruth, I don't know if I answered this (I don't recall doing so). I have the pen inked right now - Iroshizuku Asa Gao in one end, and Bungbox Ink of the Witch in the other. I have been carrying it around for 2 weeks, in my 5-pen leather wrap. I have not noticed leakage in the caps, or on my fingers when I use it. The only thing I have noticed so far is that one end seems to be a "drier" write than the other. I.e., the Asa Rao side is a bit touchy, while the IotW side is fine. Haven't tried the rollerball yet.

Oh to have that translucent pink Prera! @migo984 has the Oeste series named after birds. There is a pink one, so I’m assuming Este is the same pen as Oeste.    Excellent haul. I have some Uniball One P pens. Do you like to use them? I like them enough, but don’t use them too much yet.    Do you or your wife use Travelers Notebooks? Seeing you were at Kyoto, I thought of them as there is a store there.

It's not nearly so thick that I feel it comprises my fine-grained control, the way I feel about the Cross Peerless 125 or some of the high-end TACCIA Urushi pens with cigar-shaped bodies and 18K gold nibs. Why would you expect me or anyone else to make explicit mention of it, if it isn't a travesty or such a disappointment that an owner of the pen would want to bring it to the attention of his/her peers so that they could “learn from his/her mistake” without paying the price?

Why nobody says that the section of Tuzu besides triangular shape is quite thick. Honestly it’s the thickest one among my many pens, other thick I own is Noodler’s Ahab. Because of that fat section I feel more control and my handwriting has improved. I can’t say it’s comfortable or uncomfortable, but needs a moment to accommodate. It’s funny because my school years are long over. Besides this pen had horrible F nib. Tines were perfectly aligned but it was so scratchy on left stroke that collecte

Awesome! I'm in the process of preparing my bag for our pen meet this weekend and I literally have none of the items you mention!! I'll see if I can find one or two!

@asota -- Yeah, I think I have a few rolls in my fridge that are probably 20-30 years old at this point (don't remember now if they are B&W or color film) and don't even really know where to get the film processed, once the drive through kiosks went away....  I just did a quick Google search and (in theory) there was a place the next town over from me -- but got a 404 error message when I tried to click on the link....  Ruth Morrisson aka inkstainedruth
