Do Ink Sample Vials Travel Well?

I'm talking about the milky plastic ones with white lids you get from Todd and Brian..hold prbly 10ml or less. Easily a pen ful or two.

Is this a good container to put into ones bag for refills when away from home?

Yes, they travel fine. I just came back from Australia (I am in Canada) form a 1 month business trip and I took with me approx 15 plastic vials of different sizes (a few 15ml, a bunch of 5mls and a few of 3mls)... all of them made it there and back quite well.

I have used them to travel.

It holds a bit more than 5ml.

But I also put the ink vial into 2 zip lock bags one inside the other, just in case it leaks.

You NEED to make sure the ink vial is stabilized when you are loading. As it is easily knocked over, and that would be a MESS.

I've used them for travelling to and from work and not had any issues apart from the very top thread needing a quick wipe with the ink cloth, but for longer travel I prefer using the 15ml nalgene bottles.

If you are concerned that a Ziploc bag provides insufficient protection for ink vials, see this topic:

Actually that's a wonderful idea, David! It not only secures them, but let's you see what you're carrying, too. The other great advantage is that they allow filling of odd-shaped pens like the Omas 360. I was having to carry around ink sample vials anyway; this is brilliant.

Nice. Do they make pensize boxes, too?

Actually, on David's original concept, I started doing research and have found Pelican has a wide range of micro-cases, both clear cover and solid cover. I would't just let the pens bounce around in one of these, but if you could wrap them and then use this for transport, I think you might like it. They have carabiners for attachment too. I'm going for the 1030 and 1010 models which should fit the ink vials:

That is rubber inside the case.

The 1010 (tiny one) can be had for $10US from Amazon

The short answer is "Yes." One could buy a Pelican case or Otterbox of the appropriate size and cut a pen tray insert to fit. An even better solution would be to find a hard shell case made for cigars, which typically has slotted closed-cell foam inserts. I have a couple of these which I used for cigars years ago. I don't even know if they are made any more. Check with cigar shops. I would use mine for pens, except they still smell of cigar tobacco.

<after a bit of browsing>

Here you go! Do you want to carry 5 pens? 10 pens? 50 pens? The choice is yours. Oh ... Here's a link: https://www.xikar.com/products/containers/travel-humidors

FWIW, Xikar has a very good reputation for innovative technology and quality products .... in the cigar paraphernalia community.

Oh to have that translucent pink Prera! @migo984 has the Oeste series named after birds. There is a pink one, so I’m assuming Este is the same pen as Oeste.    Excellent haul. I have some Uniball One P pens. Do you like to use them? I like them enough, but don’t use them too much yet.    Do you or your wife use Travelers Notebooks? Seeing you were at Kyoto, I thought of them as there is a store there.

It's not nearly so thick that I feel it comprises my fine-grained control, the way I feel about the Cross Peerless 125 or some of the high-end TACCIA Urushi pens with cigar-shaped bodies and 18K gold nibs. Why would you expect me or anyone else to make explicit mention of it, if it isn't a travesty or such a disappointment that an owner of the pen would want to bring it to the attention of his/her peers so that they could “learn from his/her mistake” without paying the price?

Why nobody says that the section of Tuzu besides triangular shape is quite thick. Honestly it’s the thickest one among my many pens, other thick I own is Noodler’s Ahab. Because of that fat section I feel more control and my handwriting has improved. I can’t say it’s comfortable or uncomfortable, but needs a moment to accommodate. It’s funny because my school years are long over. Besides this pen had horrible F nib. Tines were perfectly aligned but it was so scratchy on left stroke that collecte

Awesome! I'm in the process of preparing my bag for our pen meet this weekend and I literally have none of the items you mention!! I'll see if I can find one or two!

@asota -- Yeah, I think I have a few rolls in my fridge that are probably 20-30 years old at this point (don't remember now if they are B&W or color film) and don't even really know where to get the film processed, once the drive through kiosks went away....  I just did a quick Google search and (in theory) there was a place the next town over from me -- but got a 404 error message when I tried to click on the link....  Ruth Morrisson aka inkstainedruth
