Leather Cover Journal

Hi all,

I've been searching for a leather bound notebook/ journal/ diary with the characteristics of the large classic moleskin notebook ie., size, bookmark, elastic closure and quality FP worthy paper. I even looked for a custom bookmaker with little luck. This would be for a heirloom journal.

 

Any suggestions?

Thanks for your reply. I have searched via most common search engines including Google, yahoo and Amazon. I have not found what I'm looking for which is a quality brown leather bound book (plain without symbols or designs), A5 is size, with an elastic band for closure, a bookmark similar the large moleskine notebook and quality, college ruled paper, as noted in my initial post. I'm not interested in buckles, straps, or ribbons. I'm willing to spend money to purchase or have made such a book to be hopefully used as a family heirloom. My search so far suggest that my best bet might be a small bookmaker such as http://www.epica.com/Lined-Italian-Leather-Journals-and-Diaries.html.

Design.Y EP Record might be pretty close to what you are looking for. It depends on how strict you are with the criteria.

 

It's very slightly larger (and thicker) than a large Moleskine, there is a small logo/brand at the back cover, and the ruling is a bit narrower than college (EP Record ruling is 6.5mm and I believe college ruling is 7.1mm, Moleskine ruling is 6mm).

 

On the other hand it is real leather and based on reviews very high quality (I have no personal experience on this). An elastic closure is an optional extra. The paper is Tomoe River which is my favorite paper, though some people do not like it because of show through (it's very thin).

 

It can be difficult to find exactly what you are looking for. A custom book by a bookbinder may be the best way to go. If you go that route I would suggest you look for a local bookbinder if possible as then you can meet with them in person to explain precisely what you want.

 

I myself plan to take a bookbinding course in the fall to bind my own perfect journals, so I definitely understand the desire to have a journal that is just right.

Have you looked at monsieur notebooks ( http://www.monsieurnotebook.com/products/ )? I got one in a lucky dip bag a short while ago but haven't had a chance to try it out yet so can't vouch for the FP friendliness of the paper however. The only thing I have found is that the cover can be a bit stiff initially, but that it becomes easier to open in time.
