"new" Lamy Dialog 3 Piano Black - Any Opinions?

Recommended Posts

Hi, I'm very interested in the Lamy Dialog 3 Piano Black. I've already read a lot of reviews about the LD3, and I would like to know if the actual production has solved the issues with the twist mechanism and the "precocious drying" (which seems to be quite common, according to some reviews).

Thanks in advance!

I have two Lamy Dialog3 models with the modified (lengthened) cuff that emerges from the iris when opened, thus fixing (to my knowledge) the older flawed version that led to a) leaking and B) drying out.

In June I had the chance to try both new colors at P.W. Akkerman in Amsterdam—aside from the finish and perhaps a slight difference in weight, they function just like my second generation matte black and palladium Dialog3 models.

Thank you! Very helpful.

The mechanism manufacturing has been improved to prevent any of the issues from the past

The shiny black is nice but I have and am partial to the black matte and the silver matte

The Dialog 3 is such a cool pen. Knowing me, I'm positive I would really hate writing with it due to its weight, but it's so darn pretty. I love the design of it.

"Oh deer."

I finally ordered the Dialog 3 "Piano Black" with EF nib. I'll post some pictures when I receive it. :)

Hey, A1979, have you received your pen yet? Keen to have a look at how the EF nib performs. :)

I'm also looking for the same spec as you. Can you post some pics of it in your hand? I'm thinking maybe it's too big for my hands.. Thanks

Also, I think the shiny D3 would show scratches very easily

Great, I'm looking forward to seeing it. I'll be interested to see how it fairs against scratches

Not yet ! :(

The package went lost because of the strikes in the Netherlands, and the poor Joost (Appelboom pens) had to order a new one for me. I expect to receive it by the end of next week and will then post some pictures. :)

Believe it or not... After the first package went lost, I received a new pen. Fine, but they have mistakenly sent me a "Matte Black" instead of the "Piano Black". :( So, I have to wait a little bit more... Je vous tiendrai au courant. :)

Oh boy doesn't sound promising :/ I contacted them for mine and couldn't get status update as he's on vacation. I hope no mixup in the creation there

Don't worry, such a situation happens only once... and it happened to me. :)

Here a couple of pictures of the "Piano Black", inked with Waterman green. The EF is too broad for my taste, but extremely smooth! The pen is heavy, but not too heavy: I would say substantial, solid: it gives a good feeling and the black shiny lacquer make me think of the my Montblanc 149's "precious resin". :)

Thank you! I have been using it since a couple of weeks, and I confirm the first, positive impression.

I really like the lacquer coating: never slippery and pleasant to hold.

Oh to have that translucent pink Prera! @migo984 has the Oeste series named after birds. There is a pink one, so I’m assuming Este is the same pen as Oeste.    Excellent haul. I have some Uniball One P pens. Do you like to use them? I like them enough, but don’t use them too much yet.    Do you or your wife use Travelers Notebooks? Seeing you were at Kyoto, I thought of them as there is a store there.

It's not nearly so thick that I feel it comprises my fine-grained control, the way I feel about the Cross Peerless 125 or some of the high-end TACCIA Urushi pens with cigar-shaped bodies and 18K gold nibs. Why would you expect me or anyone else to make explicit mention of it, if it isn't a travesty or such a disappointment that an owner of the pen would want to bring it to the attention of his/her peers so that they could “learn from his/her mistake” without paying the price?

Why nobody says that the section of Tuzu besides triangular shape is quite thick. Honestly it’s the thickest one among my many pens, other thick I own is Noodler’s Ahab. Because of that fat section I feel more control and my handwriting has improved. I can’t say it’s comfortable or uncomfortable, but needs a moment to accommodate. It’s funny because my school years are long over. Besides this pen had horrible F nib. Tines were perfectly aligned but it was so scratchy on left stroke that collecte

Awesome! I'm in the process of preparing my bag for our pen meet this weekend and I literally have none of the items you mention!! I'll see if I can find one or two!

@asota -- Yeah, I think I have a few rolls in my fridge that are probably 20-30 years old at this point (don't remember now if they are B&W or color film) and don't even really know where to get the film processed, once the drive through kiosks went away....  I just did a quick Google search and (in theory) there was a place the next town over from me -- but got a 404 error message when I tried to click on the link....  Ruth Morrisson aka inkstainedruth
