Rose Cyclamen - J. Herbin

J. Herbin was established in 1670.

M. Herbin was a sailor, and from his many journeys to India he brought back to Paris formulas for manufacturing sealing wax. His special lacquer formula improved the quality of the seals in adhesion and neatness, helping him to become famous throughout the kingdom.

J. Herbin is also the oldest name in ink production in the world.

By 1700, the company was producing “l’Encre de la Tete Noire,” followed by “Perle des Encres,” (The Jewel of Inks) and “l’Encre des Vaisseaux” (The Ink of Ships).

J. Herbin made ink for Louis XIV, and a black ink for the sole use of Victor Hugo, author of The Hunchback of Notre Dame and Les Miserables. These formulas still reside in our company headquarters in Paris.

At the moment company belongs to Exaclair Inc, that has rights to brands like Clairefontaine, Rhodia, Brause or G. Lalo.

Visvamitra - a lovely review as usual, though the wrong conclusion.

 

I am a big fan of this color as it is quite vivid without being too pink. I use it as an exclusive ink in a pen my wife gave me and also in a demonstrator pen.

I just do not like these too-blue magentas. This one looks dusty, as well. And one-dimensional. There's just nothing interesting here (for me).

 

Compared to a nice magenta like Yama-budo, well... there isn't really any comparison.

Yes! this is the Rose Cyclamen I talk about. Admittedly Yama-Budo have its own category, and I like that too! The only Iroshizuku I have, but it was worth the price to get.

I like the color but found myself rarely using it, maybe for some copyediting once in a while.

Now I reserve it mainly to refill highlighters, where it works well.

My daughter (9 yrs old at the time) chose her own fountain pen last year (Neon Coral Lamy Safari) and the first ink she filled it with was J. Herbin Rose Cyclamen.

This is one of my most beloved pinks, it is bright, vibrant and just fabulously frivolous. Is the paper above ( Platinum 3776) cream/ ivory? If so, a great match, the shading is lovely. Thank you for this review.
