Help Needed - Twsbi And Kaweco Nib Line Thickness

Hi all,

 

I could really do with some advice and experience here.

 

I recently purchased a TWSBI mini pen with fine nib and a Kaweco Classic Sport with fine nib. I got them at such a good price, I simply couldn't not buy them.

 

The pens haven't arrived yet but I'm already thinking about nib options as my preference is medium nibs. I'm particularly fond of line thickness and how smooth and wet my parker sonnet medium writes and also my sheaffer prelude gold medium.

 

I hear that the Kaweco medium nibs are more like a fine. Does anyone have experience with TWSBI and/or Kaweco medium and broad nibs? Should I step up to broad to get closer to my Parker Sonnet Medium line?

 

Any help or advice would be most appreciated.

I have two Kaweco Sport Classics in Medium. They lean on the fine side of medium line width. I have a Kaweco Sport Ice, and older model, with a B nib that is fat, smooth and wet. My older Sport Ice in M falls between the two.

 

The nib on my TWSBI 580 w/ an M nib leans to the broader side of medium.

Can't speak to the TWSBI F nib - it's one of only two TWSBI nib sizes that I don't have! My experience with Kaweco, though, has been 'funny'. I honestly find it hard to tell the difference between their F and M nibs - they're really not that far apart, in my limited experience. Even their EF nibs I wouldn't consider to be all that fine - though they're definitely a little bit finer...

That's just what I needed to know. I'll wait to see how the pens write when they arrive and then most likely order the medium for the twsbi and the broad for the kaweco

It's not only the nib size, it's also how wet they write and how springy they are that influences line width.

 

Kaweco uses Bock nibs, smooth as can be, beautiful smooth nibs. Unfortunately the sizes inscribed on the nibs are only a rough yardstick from my experience. I have a Kaweco EF that writes like a Medium and a Kaweco M that writes like a Fine. As well, the handful I've tried were nice and springy and wet writers that put down a fat line.

 

TSBI uses Jowo nibs, stiff and unbending, but very accurately sized as far as I can tell. Medium wetness, neither too wet, nor too dry.
