Bleu Reveur - Louis Vuitton

I guess I don't have to intruduce LV brand to you. Some time ago they started selling stationery products and offered some inks. A bottle of ink costs 52 $. Wow.

One of FPNers - Veltri - has send me samples of two LV inks. Thank you! Be sure to check his review of Bleu reveur.

First Bleu Reveur - nice, deep and rich blue black. I wonder who makes their inks? This one looks really nice.

I was not aware that LV did propose inks in the past.

It is very expensive, but on the other hand it is a gorgeous color. Really.

Thanks a lot for sharing

Ahh... you know I love blue-blacks.... but for $50... I need more than a "nice" blue-black with NO water resistance.

Thanks for the review Vis..

I guess spending $50 on a LV ink is no crazier than spending $2000 on a LV bag. Then again, you won't be using this for envelopes...

Thank you for reviewing the LV inks! I've been very curious about them and this one looks nice, but (to me at least) not nice enough to deplete the Sailor ink fund for it :P

Yeah, but if you carry around the bag - people are aware of your 'status'. Unless you're at a level unknown to most, people will have no idea this is a Louis Vuitton product to show off your status.

But, with it being ink, you could at least tell them it's LV stuff.

You mean actually open and use it? No,no.

The whole point of an ink like this with it's prominent, flashy branding is not to actually use it. If you did that, how would people know you were using LV ink and be impressed? It's for putting on your desk, or similar highly visible location, usually with the label angled just right.

My money is on J. Herbin, given the French Connection. This looks very much like a saturated version of one of their colours.

Thanks again for yet another fine review, and all the work that must have gone into it.

Thanks for the review! Wow, lovely ink that I would not be buying...my Iroshizuku habit is bad enough. :P

Which do you think? There is no blue in Herbin's regular lineup this dark or saturated, or with such poor waterfastness. Bleu Nuit is, by comparison, quite light and unsaturated, but holds its line quite well when wet.

Thank you for this review. I enjoyed the Victor Hugo citation. It's a very attractive color, but at $50 a bottle? How many volumes of Hugo's poetry could one buy for that?

I've recently bought a couple of Louis Vuitton inks, and I can confirm that they are not made in France by J.Herbin. B)

I've recently purchased the Louis Vuitton Or Audacieux (Bold Gold) and Rouge Libertin (a dark red) inks and they are really great colors and very well behaved. Pricey, indeed...but no regrets.

I have managed to collect a few, but haven't tried them all yet: Rouge Libertin, Or Audacieux, Violet Malicieux, Marron Epicurien, Bleu Reveur and Verte Optimiste. Brun Ténébreux is coming soon. :) Rouge Libertin is one of the best dark reds I've written with.

I wish I could locate the orange and pink, but they are discontinued and harder to find. Not that obtaining any of them could be called easy. They aren't sold anywhere in the UK.

They are less expensive in Europe than they are in the US. ;)

The reason I now know they weren't made by J.Herbin is because some of them are sealed with cellophane and have a bar code label confirming they weren't made in France.

That's an impressive collection! The bottles are beautiful, so I hope you are able to display them somewhere to admire as you use them. I might ask my parents to get me one from Europe later this year; I'm thinking of the Bleu Sibyllin, but hoping to see more reviews before I pick the one.

Thank you for confirming that they are well behaved! At that price, I hope that they did quite a bit of testing to make sure that they don't let us down!

The $50 price does include free shipping. ;)

This is true. On the other hand all of LV website prices include free delivery. The US web-site price was $52 plus tax, and the UK web-site price was GBP£34. That was still a good saving bearing in mind our price already includes 20% tax. The EU price is €35 inc tax & delivery. Just for comparison purposes.

Thank you. :) They are still being replaced in their small orange boxes at the moment.

I haven't found any reviews for Bleu Sibyllin. I believe it has replaced Bleu Rêveur. So it's still a dark blue/blue-black.

I have been advised that there are now only 3 colours in their range. Black Magnetiq, Bleu Sibyllin, and Rouge Gourmand

Thanks for the info (I only used B&W film and learned to process that).   Boy -- the stuff I learn here!  Just continually astounded at the depth and breadth of knowledge in this community! Ruth Morrisson aka inkstainedruth

It just wasn't likely to have been Kodachrome.  It would have been the films I referred to as "other color films." (Kodachrome is not a generic term for color film. @Ceilidh -- Well, I knew people who were photography majors in college, and I'm pretty sure that at least some of them were doing photos in color, not just B&W like I learned to process.  Whether they were doing the processing of the film themselves in one of the darkrooms, or sending their stuff out to be processed commercially?  That I don't actually know, but had always assumed that they were processing their own film. Kodachrome 25 was the most accurate film for clinical photography and was used by dermatologists everywhere. I got magnificent results with a Nikon F2 and a MicroNikkor 60 mm lens, using a manually calibrated small flash on a bracket. I wish there were a filter called "Kodachrome 25 color balance" on my iPhone camera.
