Mont Blanc John Lennon Le

Has anyone purchased the LE John Lennon Mont Blanc Fountain pen?

And what did they think of it after they bought it? Please tell me you use it and not just display it.

I don't own any Mont Blanc's but I'd buy this in a flash if money wasn't an issue!

I bought it and love it. When I first saw photos of it, I was not impressed with it, especially the clip. Then when I received it, I fell in love it. I especially like the weight of it, and the feel of the simulated vinyl feel the pen has. Also, because I liked it so much I bought the ballpoint too. I use both of mine.

If you are considering buying it, buy and you will not regret it.

I own one and find it quite unique in the Montblanc universe. Solid construction without being heavy. Great design; love the guitar motif. I enjoy the nib, the flow and the understated class of this pen (i.e., you could use it every day and know you're using something special without being ostentatious).

Agree that the review makes some very good points that may aid you in your decision.

I'm a Beatles Fan and I loved it when it first came out. I don't know if its still for sale. But I'll consider it when it becomes available in my future. Thanks everyone!

Has anyone purchased the LE John Lennon Mont Blanc Fountain pen?

Are you referring to the special edition or the actual limited edition 1940 version? They are two very different pens.

Hi Lamb South. I'm actually referring to the latest release. The Special Edition

I gave my wife the John Lennon special edition for our wedding anniversary last year. She loves the pen as she is a huge Beatles fan and a big fan of John's skill as both a composer and lyricist. She keeps the pen on her at all times but does not use it at work as she fears someone would either damage it or get it dirty.

She says it writes great but will have to take her word for it. I don't like the feel of the lined resin when holding it. She said it makes it easier to hold the pen but I still prefer the smooth resin pens.

Ah now I see. I, and my son, use the standard 'entry level' JL. His is rollerball (for now) and mine is FP. Lovely feel to it and dimensions really suit me. What the man himself would have thought I am not so sure.

I own both the resin version and the silver Commemorative Edition. I had the resin version modified to an XXF wet writer (like a Waverley type grind) and I sent the CE back for a factory EF nib exchange.

I should also say that I own one of the resin versions sealed in the box as a future collector's item.

The XXF writer is a daily carry in my briefcase. I LOVE the way the resin was modified to feel like the vinyl of a record. This pen is one of my favorite pens to use at work because the XXF nib is most forgiving for use on terrible performing hospital progress note paper, and the unusual security paper used for our state of California prescription pads (which are required by the DEA for all prescriptions of controlled substances like opiate pain medicine.)

I use the CE much less often. The factory EF nib is quite sublime- one of my favorite modern nibs of any manufacturer, but I find the pen to be somewhat uncomfortable to use for more than a quick signature, or just a quick little note. Long writing sessions, or all day carry are both out of the question (sadly) because of a few issues- the weight of the pen, the metal section, and mostly, how both of the above combine to make the short grip section with the annoying "step-up" too uncomfortable to use all day.

Since both models use similar dimensions, both have metal sections, and both have the annoying step-up, I must conclude that it is the weight of the pen which makes the metal pen so uncomfortable to use for long writing sessions.

I fell in love with the design details of this pen, when it was released, and the significance of the dedication of the pen to the life, work, and untimely death of John Lennon made it extra-special to me.

I am, by no means, a John Lennon or even Beatles superfan / fanboy- however, I remember the moment in time when I heard that he was murdered. His death was the first in my life where I actually felt a deep sense of grief, despite never having met the individual. Is that weird? I don't know.

Anyway, I feel that the Montblanc John Lennon pens are excellent pens at their price point, and would highly recommend buying one if the price point is reasonable to you- even if the pen would be the only Montblanc in your collection.

This pen is nice enough to buy even if you have serious hatred for the brand and its emphasis on the rich and famous lifestyle, but have a genuine admiration or love for the art and work of the artist for whom this pen is dedicated.

I hope this helps-

Love,

Joe

Hi everyone. Thanks for the responses! Appreciate it greatly as I'm not a Mont Blanc user, but hope to be soon. Which pen? Don't know. And sorry for the late reply. I've just returned from a long absence and haven't got used to replying quickly enough. Many thanks

Regards

Paul

In all sincerity, man, all of the comperable sized/family MB pens write 99% the same. If you like the LeGrand (which is what the JL edition is based on), 99% of it will pass over to the JL edition.

Well said, Joe! The "vinyl" grooves on resin have just such a unique feel and look, that I have two of them, one that needs tuning, but has Kon-Peki in it always :)
